Hey guys,

I'm helping out my wife's school here in Orlando putting together a website template for them.

Unfortunately I've run into a snag I can't seem to get around. The problem I'm running is this...hopefully I don't lose you guys...

Here's a peak at the template.

Here's what I need:
I want to be able to scroll down the page and have the navigation stay put, and keep the text within the margins of the white text box.

I can't seem to get the CSS to work correctly. Eventually the text is scrolling into the blue margins, and I don't want that.

I need to be able to load the master site on the school webserver via Dreamweaver.
Also, the current template was created in Fireworks for what it's worth.

Anyone out there able to help me out? Either with helpful tips, or even willing to code it real quick I'd be forever grateful.

Please PM me if you think you can help. Time is ticking on this particular project.

THANK YOU THANK YOU!

What about using an inline frame and positioning it with CSS? I am not that familiar with CSS so I am not sure this is possible but I know an iframe positioned correctly should give you the result you are looking for.

I'm not all that familiar with frames. Most of the sites I see with frames have scroll bars in the middle of them?

Inline frames have the scroll bar as well but it puts the frame inside the page rather than having the big frames most are used to seeing. Check out http://www.w3schools.com and see the iframe tag.

Don't think that's what I'm looking for.

Thanks for the idea though. That site has some great tips!

Hopefully you can come across your answer there. It has a section on HTML, XHTML, and CSS which has helped me greatly.

Hey Robert!

Try this. In your CSS file, include this:

Quote:
/*main body wrapper*/
.content {
position:absolute; left: 250; top: 200; width: 475;
margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;
}

This is then referenced in the HTML code with the following line:

Quote:
<div class="content">
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consetetur sadipscing elitr, sed diam nonumy eirmod tempor invidunt ut labore et dolore magna aliquyam erat, sed diam voluptua.
</div>

This code will position your body text within the white box. All you'll have to do for the menu is change the ".content" tag with ".menu" or something similar and change the position numbers to the left. It would be something like 20 instead of 250.

You'll have to play with the numbers to get it to fit perfectly, but that's going to get you in the ballpark, at least.

Let me know if this at least gets you part way there! If not, we'll get this working one way or another!

Scott,

That may be exactly what I've been looking for.

Biggest problem has been that the navigation bar starts to wander down the page when enough text is input. I think what you gave me will essentially anchor the navigation where I want it to be.

Will play around with it. Thanks.

Scott,

That only half way worked. I've got the nav staying put now. And the left margin lines up. But if I do anything to the right margin it throws the whole page out of wack.

Glad you got it to work!

I realize I forgot to add the right margin to keep it from going too far right.

Basically, think of creating different "containers" and placing them with the "position:absolute" comment. Feel free to pull apart my Reels in Motion site, since it is "held together" with this technique.

My hat is off to you for getting it working!
