I doubt most would want an honest and direct critique of their works by a learned student of this craft.

I don't mind it. But my technique is nearly flawless anyway.
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

I would. I'd pay good money for that. Not easy to get though.

I have one "Magician-Fooler" routine, but I use it just for magicians, because it would probably be boring for laypersons..

I think I can do a fooler with some of the things I seen in my travels ,like a buddys car with no driver in the seat ,the car on its own shut off and the starter engages!! I suspect gremilens in this Lincolin town car!!!
that was one of the most unusual things I have witnessed in a machine ,we never figured out what happened ,the car cought on fire on its own several weeks later, many say that sounded a Alfred hitchcock movie theme,or from the Twilight Zone. Smile
theres a lot to learn out there, many interesting subjects, and hobbies to enjoy

"Magician Fooler" is what they like to put in ads to get you to buy because you think Magician: Copperfield, Burton, etc. When in reality it means the hobbyist.

Copperfield, Burton, etc are easy.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

You read the ad, you imagined what they wanted, you are a magician and you were fooled into buying it. Next question.

Great point. But that would imply that hobbyist are no magicians.

What do you call a good customer with dreams of entertaining audiences and who's accomplished at fooling themselves?

But what about people like John Bannon or Ken Krenzel? They are not professionals in a sense making a living out of magic.

Could it be that some magicians have forgotten how to fool laypeople? It reminds me of a line from "Weird Science." She says something like, "In your quest for fame and glory, you for got one important thing. The girl."

I know I did for a while. I got too deep into method and forgot everything else. I was focusing on new and novel twists and turns and lost the connection between myself and the others.

I got my priorities all wrong by listening to people telling me about better methods.

First sentence ROCKS.

I like it.

The continuation of that is some magicians can´t get "people" to watch them.

The hunt for the holy grail for a certain task (i.e. forcing a card) says everthing.
