Am conducting a summer magic camp for kids.
Interested in having them build something they can use for an animals. Perhaps for a small rodent or parakeet. Should be relatively easy to build out of common items. I know about Spellbinders books, but interested in specific ideas. Thoughts, feedback, suggestions, etc?

I'm glad you already know about my e-books, so I won't have to mention them! Some containers to consider for a kid's magic craft shop project might include gimicking a paper bag for a production or a vanish. You could also show them how to gimmick a cardboard take-out box such as you get from Chinese Food restaurants. A popcorn bucket from a movie theater makes a nice production container for a pet rat... especially since Ratatouille came out. Likewise a chicken bucket from the Colonel's place (also good for producing a rubber chicken).

Tarbel Vol 3 I think, has a production using a hat box and a rabbit bag
Could be adapted to produce a mouse from a KFC bucket (or any box with a lid) Spellbinder, please mention your e-books as some of don't already know about them |

Would these KFC/Popcorn buckets be made into "card boxes"?

My e-books would probably not be appropriate for teaching kids in that manner. They don't need to learn the "real" magic secrets until they begin to explore for more on their own and prove that they have a love for magic in their quest for knowledge. Gimmicking paper bags and cardboard boxes will serve the purpose for now.
Would these KFC/Popcorn buckets be made into "card boxes"? Not likely. You were asking about producing small animals. If you have a specific trick in mind, better say so in order to get the right advice.

The specific trick I intend is mentioned above.
To produce a small rodent or parakeet. No secret beyond any children's library book.

OK then, the KFC bucket is an easy one to gimmick. You need two buckets, fit one inside the other to make a false bottom, and cut the excess from the top of the inner bucket. Don't forget camouflaged air holes in the hiding space. The production can be made by removing the inner bucket under cover of a big KFC napkin or a cloth OR you can just cut a trap door for the release of the animal.

@Spellbinder
I had to leave early today so didn't see your last message. But went to the Dollar Store and found some children's black beach buckets, which I bought. Then in the same store I found some of several round disposable Glad containers for food, which I thought would make a good f**** b*****. Then I got some cardboard, which I plan on painting black, cutting, and gluing over the food container via a hinged half-door. Don't know if there is a simpler solution, but there you have it!

Good; problem solved. Those black buckets for the beach worry me. Are kids into bizarre toys? Good luck with your project!

It bombed though. I asked the kids afterwards and some (grades 4-9) said beach buckets were "too kiddie". So its back to the crawing board.

10 magic props you can make from a plastic beach bucket that are not "kiddie" tricks:
1. Foo Bucket - pour in water and it changes to confetti (as in the old clown stunt) 2. Buckets and beach balls (Cups and balls with buckets and miniature inflatable beach balls) - Also Chop Bucket with just one bucket 3. Bucket hat loader. 4. Rice Buckets (probably better with gravel or sand) 5. Mental Mystery Buckets (buckets hide various objects and you use a dowsing stick to reveal the contents beneath each bucket) 6. Bucket Head Illusion ( I have magnifiers on my site if the Dollar Store near you is all out!) 7. Lota Bucket (good for a "Jack and Jill" theme) 8. Miser's Dream with a bucket. 9. Kick the Bucket- poltergeist in a bucket 10. Birthday Cake Bucket Production I can continue, but that should be enough to keep the kids busy for a month or so. Do I need to come out with a new "Bucket Magic" e-book?

True, but I can see the kids points.
I think at their age they are trying to be more grown up. And brightly colored beach buckets might not be part of that program I'm going to give another look through your site, as well as Mark Wilson. The solution to an appropriate animal trick lies in there somewhere.

Ok, I just thought of it!
Instead of a f****-b***** beach bucket, I can have them make the same from paper bags. Ain't nothing "kiddie" about a grocery or lunch sack. Tada!
