Wow yo may not want to read this. Just a warning.
First off it is WAY too dark. I can't tell your floating a table, nobody who didn't know the trick would have the faintest idea what was being floated. Second of all one huge mistake MOST magicians make is to say they are "hilarious". Not a good idea really. You don't show anything on that video remotly amusing. Also try to show a complet trick at least once. I know the cool editing with the sub trunk looks cool, but does NOT show anything about your actual ability to do magic, let alone be funny. I would take OUT the clip with the sad back curtain as it just does not sell you well as a professional. Also the big mistake you seem to be making is a complete lack of showing YOU in the video! You are after all selling you, and truthfully after this video I don't belive I could pick you out of a lineup. That is bad from a sales point of view. With home video editing technology what it is today it is easy to fall into these traps. I get 100's of these videos from guys wanting work, and too many fall into this catagory. Don Alan said it best. "You need to do something that an agent can look at and then tell the client, 'I have a guy who can do .............'" That is selling yourself instead of a "magician". It is a good starting point though.

A couple things and it has been mentioned already. Many dark areas.
I wouldnt use a live voice feed that sounds like that when you did the shoe effect. It really was not professional at all. If you can clean it up then it would work perfect. Also length is also the other thing you want to look at. You have some great material already there. I would shorten it down a bit. Remember when people view these videos they don't tend to watch it all. So get all the best into one package. Our is a little over a min. And that is the time length you want to look at. You are at 3:46 right now. With the material you have see how you can shorten the video. You are in the RIGHT direction. Keep up the good work

I took many of your comments, and came up with almost a completely new video, that I think is well improved.
Let me know what you think about this one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XncbDNt5Ci4 Once again, constructive criticism is greatly appreciated! Sam |

Lack of good contrast, ur wearing a black suit in front of a black backdrop in a lot of your shots, and you look like a floating head with a small yellow tail moving around on the stage, either brighter lighting in those shots to give better contrast, or change suit color before backdrop. Live shots from shows are good, but many top promos are shot just for the promo. In otherwords, get a few folks to play audience visible, and shoot with lighting for the camera instead of for ur usual show just for the promo. The sub trunk, the girl is almost not visible before the exchange because it is too dark, enough light when you appear but almost unrecognizeable with her there. Again the table levitation initially is hard to tell what you are doing, too dark. Couldn't tell if it was zombie, table lev., or you were holding a cloth getting ready to appear something.

Sam,
A few random thoughts in no particular order: * The beginning of your promo claims "cutting edge illusions" and "unbelievable comedy". The promo shows neither. This will immediately turn off any booking agent. If you're grossly over-selling yourself in the promo, no booking agent in their right mind is going to hire you. * You need to show audience reactions. This, above all else, will convince someone to hire you (assuming you have great audience reactions of course!) * You need to show a whole lot more variety, in quick, short segments. You spend WAY too much time showing the bandana trick. It's a good start though!
Some think Houdini used trap doors in his act, but he was just going through a stage.

Not mentioned yet, but you did make an improvement on the second video. Keep fishing and you'll come up with something better everytime...
good job! I would give professional advice about what to change and such but I have no marketing experience... ;-)

Sam,
It would help me and others here at the Café to know who is your target market for this video? (Corporation events, trade shows, private event planners, weddings, kids parties...) ~John |
