Great news !! Marshall Brodien had sample copies of his recently published biography, "The Magical Life of Marshall Brodien Creator of TV Magic Cards and Wizzo the Wizard", at Abbott's Get Together this past weekend. It is now available for purchase. There is a lot more to the Marshall Brodien story than T.V. Magic cards. Written by John Moehring it's a fascinating life story of a great guy.

I just got Marshall's book this past week. It is a great read! Many great stories of his magical life. Apparently the first printing is sold out, but the publisher is reprinting in the next couple of weeks. I believe that Marshall is responsible for many of us getting into magic.
If any of you live in the Chicago area, you can see Marshall perform at Jackie's Magic 2007. The event is a food drive to help the needy in the Chicago area. For the cost of non-perishable food items or a cash donation you will be treated to a 90 minute magic show. This is the 4th year of the event. Marshall will be performing on stage with Mark & Sue Holstein, The Balsters, Joe Diamond, comedy ventriloquist Chuck Field and more. The event will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2007 in the theater at Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Illinois. The doors open at 6:00 PM and the show starts at 7:00 PM. Just wanted to put a couple of words in on this, and other, books.
A lot of magic books don't get the exposure that they deserve becaue they don't have tricks in them. If that's a criterion for choosing, you are missing out on great reading and even better lessons in magic. Some of the best books publishe din magice recently are Illusion Show, about David Bamberg, Milo and Roger - A Magical Life, and now The Magical Life of Marshall Brodien. John Moehring's biography of this iconic magician offers a great inside look at one of magic's most interesting personalities. I thought I would be able to read it over a couple of nights, but I was really unable to put it down. It loses nothing at all on the second, third, or fourth reading, either. This book offer a lot for magicians at any level. Do yourself a favor -- ditch the "latest and greatest" in the trick books and one-off effects from your gift list and add one or all of these books. You will learn more about magic that will serve you in the long term as well as getting a terrific and fascinating look at the lives of professional entertainers. |

Yeah, I pleaded and begged and carried on until I convinced my mom to stop at Eckerd Drugs and let me go in and buy TV Magic cards with my paper route money. I still have the box and the cards, and even the instructions. What an effective selling technique.
My family was sick of the five of clubs by the time I was finished with them! Pix |

This sounds like a fun read. Marshall was at the Houdini Club this year and his carny barker patter was simply amazing... I wish I had it recorded. It was spontaneous and hilarious.
