Why is there no "view my posts" selection? You know the one you select, and then it takes you to all your posts and the ones that have the latest replies are bumped up and listed as new. The only thing I am able to do is view my posts from the last 30 days, and I have to check everyone to see if they got any replies. Someone could have responded to my posts from years ago and I would never know it, as the forum is too big to check everywhere. Thanks.

You need to do a search. In the upper right corner of the page, click on search. On that page enter you user name in the search by username. Scroll down and click on begin search. That will return every post you have ever made. If you don't want them all, you can select a date range. You can also select specific forums. The search page has a lot of options.
You can go to your preferences and select to notify you when responses are made to your topics, but you must have started the topic. There would be no way to notify you every time someone posted in a topic you had posted in. That would mean every member would get a message each time a response was made in the topic.

Ok thanks, I found the posts. Would be nice if when someone responded though that that topic would get bumped to the top of the search like other forums, as I still have to check every thread?

In your example above, you wanted to see responses from years ago. Suppose you posted in 5 topics in January and since then, there have been 10 responses to each. When you did a search, how would our search engine know which topic to put at the topic of the list?

Not sure, all I am wondering is why there is not a view my posts selection like other forums. You select the option, and it shows all your posts, and any thread that had responses in it are bumped to the top, and with a little icon lit up. They are sorted by most recent.

So let me understand. You make a post in a A on January 1, 2003. On July 1st 2007 you want to search on your name and have the engine return every post you have made, with an icon next to it if at anytime in the last 4 years, someone else posted in that topic and it would be at the top of the list?
If you look at the topics you have posted in, they have all had responses after your post so if this option was available, all of your posts would have an icon next to it and you'd end up looking at all of them anyway.

Umm what? When I do a search for my posts here, I do not know who the last person was that responded to the thread, nor is the ones that had the most recent replies bumped to the top, and lit up. I have to check EVERY thread I ever posted in to see if someone replied here. Whereas on other forums, I can just see which threads were replied in, and by whom, before clicking the thread. Sirbrad,
I know what you're getting at, but the Magic Café isn't like other forums (and that's a good thing! ) Let's see if I can help explain things better: I think what you're asking is to search for all "threads" where you've posted, not the "messages" and list these threads with the most recent post first. If you add "since last login" then the list shrinks accordingly. It's a nice idea (one that phpbb, smf and others have done for a while) but it would require a different tracking technique to log (not with cookies) what posts have been written since your last visit. The cookie method used here triggers the red coffee cups, and stores the info on your local machine. That's why when you go to a different computer, the posts you already read are still marked. The "non-cookie" method, whatever it is (I'm not a programmer) stores it on the server and is available no matter where you log in. I like the second method better, but since nearly all of the code here was custom written, it's unlikely that they'll be doing a rewrite of the search engine any time soon.
No trees were killed in the making of this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

Ah OK I see now. Thanks for clarifying, just wodered why it was different than phpbb. Yeah it is a good thing that this place is different, just more cumbersome to find recently replied posts because this place is so HUGE. Otherwise it would not be an issue, just takes a little longer.

Thanks for jumping in Dave. I'm not a programmer either and can only answer by what I know happens. Sounds like everyone is on the same page now.
