This is one mind blowing card effect. Very visual, great patter opportunities, it seems impossible, what more could a closeup magician want? I used this deck while table hopping at a wedding. This was the one which got most reactions, closely followed by a bill switch.
Description: The magician freely fans out a deck of cards which are blank on both sides. Bill Malone uses the patter that the cards are straight from the factory, which haven't even been printed. The magician can then do a pass of any style (I use the herman for this) and instantly you see the WHOLE DECK transformed from blank to printed. There are no switches, it just seems impossible. This is not typically examinable, but with a simple switch after the effect has been performed, it is then examinable. Yes, the cards are gaffed and you could substitute ungaffed double-sided blanks for examination. I do this and spectators are even twice as baffled. Make sure you get this if you like the sound of it. I give this 10/10. By the way, if you can't do passes yet, this can be done without the pass. It's still easy to perform with simple handling skills (but still needs practice like any trick for presentation purposes).

I've had one of these decks for years, I have seen Bill Malone's version.
Thanks for reminding me, I wll look at that again. PW
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

"What is Deck Support?
Deck Support is a very funny and engaging card routine using the Mental Photography or Blank Deck of cards." John thanks for your link! Your site is interesting and I might use it sometimes. You mentioned your routine is good for someone with mental photography deck *OR* just a blank deck of cards. Does this mean it's not necessary to have the mental photography deck for your routine?

I think this is the BEST routine (of course I think it's the best!) for Mental Photography. The routine flows and before the audience knows what's happening they have been totally fooled and floored. I perform this routine seriously. Once I had an elderly woman (she was alone in a retirement community common area) stop me to say that downstairs they have lots of decks with fronts and backs and I was welcome to go down there and get a deck. I wasn't sure whether she was kidding or not but I continued the routine and we both laughed in the end. John |

My silly mistake about the question of a blank deck! Of course I wasn't thinking straight at the time.
I have not really heard of a site which sells routine ideas. I hope your business goes well for you John, and be sure I'll point to you for people looking for professional routines.

Does anyone begin with the deck as "normal", then "blank" them?

You should see Steve Friedberg's "Your Deck" effect.
It uses a well known principle with the the Mental Photography approach.

I'll casually dribble the deck (face up), showing an entire deck of "normal" cards and then slowly reveal the second to top card as blank, as well as the back of the top card.
This gives some people the impression of a DL with a gaff (if they know some sleights) and they will be only slightly suprised.... until you reveal that the entire deck, front and back is now blank! I use some patter about the unwritten nature of fate and what not. |
