I've seen a set of 3 rings with one locker where the joints on all three are visible, and almost decorative and all three rings can be examined without discovering the locker. Unlocking is easy if you know how. I don't know well these rings will hold up in the long run since I don't need any more rings at this time.

Folks like Joe Porper don't produce items if there isn't a demand or market for them.

To be very honest, I would like to have a Porper's locking key ring...I know Joe produces excellent products and just having one would be nice.
But even though there's a market for them, ultimately what value does it add to the routine other than showing a solid ring for a very brief moment (and I have bragging rights that I own one, but that doesn't help the routine, just my ego)...I know pro's like Pete would not need one to convince the audience that they are solid and in 36 years of performing, I've always gotten a great reaction from performing them. It's sort of like someone wanting to get a TT just the right flesh color, but in the good old days, they would demonstrate a TT with a silver one. The whole idea is that they will never no it's there... |

I took them out of the box and after only a few moments I found my self with two key rings.

There is something to be said for performing with really good equipment. YOu can sometimes perform better with really good stuff. I'm only a hacker as a guitar player, but I picked up a Parker Fly and I was increadible!
Porper and other high end equipment can make you a better performer and are certainly a pleasure to handle, but in the end, the audience won't be able to tell the difference.

That's a yes and no Marty...depending on the type of performing you do. If you're in a smaller setting, or parlor setting it could mean the difference of getting more bookings, or someone thinking that your just another performer.
Though the audience may not notice a difference in the trick, having higher end equipment does make a difference. My specialty is in Gospel work, though I perform for regular audiences too...so much of the products that are sold as "Gospel" do not look good and usually are cheaply made. Terry Holley shared with me a comment that the late Jay Marshall made while visiting a FCM convention. He wondered why we packaged such an important message so poorly. That's why I buy high end equipment...I've probably spent close to $8,000 last year upgrading and adding to my program. First impressions do make a difference, when I see cheap looking stuff, or a set up that doesn't look so hot, then I have poor expectations of that performer. Having rings that sparkle when the light hits it, or equipment that doesn't look like it's been through the mill adds that little bit extra. The audiences do notice it, but they don't know it until they see the next act that hasn't added the little extras that make a difference. |

Sure, if you have really junky props then it can make a big difference, but I doubt if the difference would be noticeable to the audience between a sub-$100 set of quality rings, th Pro-lines, the Owens, and the Porper (you fill in your favorites in the proper locations).
It's interesting that folks recommend that you not polish your rings if you are on stage (do a search), so sparkle may actually be a problem...

I gave up,
on too many junk sets,,,, on an order that has taken 6 months,,,, I have a set of Owen's rings on the way.
An idea can turn to dust or magic, depending on the talent that rubs against it.

HIP HIP HOORAY!!! Everyone, I got great news. With Joe Porper's Linking Rings you can't loose. When they arrived to my door, I searched quickly for any little nick, weld mark, bent area, etc. They are perfect. Yea, you read right, each one is perfect. Love it, love it. So take my word for it, you will have nothing to loose when it comes to Joe Porper's Linking Rings.
The Spinning Rings are great also. I do not want to encourage you to purchase the Spinning Ring because all of you will be at a street corner performing it next to me. And Pete Biro is right, so I did get more than I expected. "I FEEL GOOOOOODDDDDDDD!!!" |
