Thought I would fly this past all the dark geniuses here in the shadowy corner of the Café...I bought a really dumb kid trick from Marty Hahne about 2 years ago in which a sketchbook of faces is in three sections: the forehead, the nose and eyes, and the mouth and chin. The story is that you had a dream about a funny looking guy that you see at your show tonight...and you drew his picture and sealed it in this envelope. Now the kids get to 'stop' the three section choices as they flip by (nod nod wink wink say no more say no more) and the composite picture matches the prediction.
I like the idea here and the levels of participation that can be incorporated but the drawings are cartoony and meant to be funny looking-kid-silly. It just dawned on me that some talented maniac out there could make a composite "police suspect sketch" book that would ultimately match the 'wanted poster' that is the prediction. A tough and scary looking serial killer or at least a klepto, etc. Could storyline how psychics help the police or a predictive dream or nightmare, etc. Is anyone doing such a prop?

If I had the ability I would try something like that. Done well, I think it could turn into a great presentation. The wanted poster would be a nice touch.

Here's an idea: have several spectators up in front and sitting facing the audience (maybe 3 or 4). Blindfold the spectators. Have someone else select a wanted poster from a bunch. Post it where the audience can see. Hand a sketch pad to each of the spectators and ask each one to quickly sketch a few lines on the pad, trying to sense the wanted killer's face. After each spectator draws some lines, turn the pad around so the audience can see the progress. By the time the last spoectator has added some sketch lines, the drawing really does resemble the chosen wanted person. Have the spectators remove their blindfolds and see what they did, so they can share in the amazement.

U.F.O - I really like this idea! I wish I had something like that when I had my stage show! You could take that a step further and say that this killer/klepto/whatever had an accomplice and you have reason to believe that he is in the area. He can be identified by a small tattoo of an X on his wrist. As a precaution you ask everyone to look at thier neighbor's wrists and one lucky spectator magically has the mark! (You could use X-Con or any of the various "Tattoo magically appearing" effects)

UFO I think that's quite a startling effect you have there!
Free choice of features, spectator as mindreader, finished photofit matches a real one in an envelope on display throughout. I think to work for adults the force should be perhaps more robust ( as it's going to be repeated 3 times!) but still, what a great effect! I love it, and I'm going to get thinking about that force. Thanks for the positive feedback guys! I think it could be a good piece. Its pretty bullet proof, has room for lots of interaction and story threads, and a visual ending.
I like the tatoo idea as well! Clearly we can write the book of routines, all we need is a propmaker!

This prop is in my current kids show.
I first show the top picture as a self portrait. I introduce the prop by asking the kids if anyone watches the Disney Channel. I then ask if anyone watches that show "that's So Raven". In the show she has visions of the future. I have visions as well. When I get my visions I draw them. I have a child come up and hold my prediction/vision with the picture facing them. I then do some gags with the different faces as I show them all different. I then get another child to randomly pick the face. I show my vision to be a 100% match. Its topical, fun, and it's a great kids mentalism bit which is very rare. S. Patrick |

Thanks again to everyone who has responded to the idea. We shall see what comes of it.

I did a little ( and I mean little) research on getting printouts for E Fits; there's an "EFITS for Windows" programme, which is sold to law enforcement agencies - no price on site, but I imagine quite expensive.
Also if you Google it, there's a flash game where you can build efits. The mechanism I had in mind for a version was based on Patrick G Redford's "Naughty Bits" (I think - the one with the bear in bondage?!) I'll keep you posted. Steve

A step toward the evil might suggest a vision of demons from hell. You have them select as they did before then produce this little demon from a cloud of green smoke. Anyone who has read Mind Myth and Magick knows the demon I am refering to.
