Some people just don't get it.

Danny, sometimes don’t you just feel like you’re spitting into the wind?
I suspect that some people just don’t bother to read the whole thread! It makes me want to scream (in fact I did scream, which startled my poor rabbits!)!!!!!!!

Can't agree more with the last two posts. I'm guessing he didn't read the whole thread before that post.
What a shame, JoJo

I have been considering not posting here anymore because I am just so tired of wading through the “Blaine” and off topic “Blaine trick” type posts. Even more frustrating is when in a non Blaine thread where a serious discussion is going on and all are helping someone with an act or a trick and the latest Blainiac chimes in with, “You doods should check out the Raven IT ROCKS!”. It’s making me nuts. Hey man, I LIKE BLAINE! I have no problem with the guy. He has helped make me money. But his disciples who got into magic last week are ruining this forum. This forum is the only place on the Internet where real honest to god magicians who busk post with any regularity. It has been an unbelievable source of help and information for others and myself. Just look at the network of real workers we have posting here with regularity. You are on the staff here Harry, Can we get these guys their own forum? They deserve it and we know there are enough of them out there to warrant it. But just as they deserve their own forum so do the buskers. I mean, we are doing real work here. The folks in this forum who are asking the questions and giving the answers are folks who put food on the table with it. That is what is making me nuts. This is something so potentially powerful and it is just getting killed. For guys like me it is an important resource but I’m really thinking about hanging it up. I’m just tired of it. Danny, I feel your pain, but if you do hang it up then don't be surprised to find an angry mob at your pitch waiting to drag you back in. Seriously, the Café needs a separate Blaine forum.
All of the most valuable people here have already complained about this. It is a problem and it's time for the problem to be corrected. I am learning how to be a busker, how to perform magic for a crowd in a public space for tips. The key elements that separate Blaine style magicians from busking magicians is that buskers build large crowds and ask them for money and Blaine does walk around magic that cannot be effectively performed in front of a crowd. I (and allot of others here) want to build crowds and there are people here who can help me learn how to do that. If those people leave then the value of this board will be reduced to nothing. This board serves as the only place on the entire internet (that's allot of web space) where you can find information and ask questions about topics like drawing an edge, tip pitching, how the police react to street performers in different areas, venue information, the best bail bondsmen in New Orleans, hecklers, angle proof effects, and anything else relating to drawing and keeping a paying crowd. It will be a terrible shame if it is ruined. Of course there is the other group that does want to do Blaine style walk up magic. I guess that's fine too but this isn't the place; they have a different set of issues. I suggest that since this board has been used from the beginning as a forum for busking magicians a new board be created called Blaine Lane, The David Blaine Tribute Board, or anything else that will more appropriately direct those with an interest in his style. So my question is, how do we make this happen? All the best... David :stout: Now, that being said, let's all quaff a pint. |

Greetings and Salutations Danny, et al
Danny, don't leave or I'll sik Koz on you! I'm kidding, man! But don't go! Well, go if you have to, but not because of the Blainiacs. I share your frustrations, I didn't even attempt to respond to this guy because I knew what was blowing in. Guys like you, Harry, Pete, Whit, Koz and others make this the best board I've found, and the info I've received by asking questions or just lurking here has bolstered or been bolstered by what I've read and seen from Cellini and Gazzo in books and videos. I second the notion that we give the blainiacs their own forum, call it "Blaine's The Greatest Street Magician of All Time and Here's Where to Learn How to Be Exactly Like Him" forum, I don't care. You, Harry, Koz, Whit, Pete and the rest of the regular posters know the wheat from the chaff -- so how do we set up a "Blaine's Great and His Tricks Are the Greatest in the World" forum? Honestly, and sincerely, some of the threads here I don't bother opening unless I see a name I recognize because they are usually blainiac type questions, tricks, etc., but I read and adopt, or not, virtually everything posted by the regulars. So, stick around, and let's figure out how to get the blainiacs their own forum, or rename this the "Buskers at Work" forum, or something, and that way we can send the blainabees on their way. What are your thoughts? Later, Joe in KC Make magic happen, live a great adventure! |

From an earlier suggestion by Poindexter on this thread, I suggested to Steve B. that we should change the name of this forum to the "crazy art of busking," and that we create a separate forum for the Blainaelians.
Perhaps if more people were to write directly to Steve, we might be able to make a change. |

How can we get the subtitle changed to Poindexter's suggestion, Discussions on the crazy art of BUSKING?

I'm for Whit's idea. I'll drop a note to Steve B myself. Although not a pro by a long shot, and know I don't have the wherewhital to make grand contributions to this thread on the Café, I'm going to be one sad guy if it folds because of these young Blainiacs.
I"m off to drop Steve B a note now. JoJo

Renaming this thread to the "crazy art of busking" would be performing a perfect act of misdirection on the Blainiacs. I'm for it.

Hey folks,
Magic Ulysees and I have dropped Steve B a couple of posts. If anyone else has a moment to do the same I'm sure it may help to sort this out. It's in the "I want to see the manager" thread. If more were to post it may turn the tide to drawing some serious attention to the situation here. JoJo

I have just sent a PM to Steve too. In the meantime anybody who is thinking of leaving please be patient. I believe the problem will be resolved if enough of us get together on it, and it looks like that is happening. This is too good of a thing to let it just fall apart.
All the best... David |

I agree. Let's deal with this situation and not give up a great venue to share and interact with all these experienced and valuable individuals. "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!"
