I have taken a few magic lessons at a local magic shop. I really want to get good. I have a whole lot of things on my plate. I play guitar play drums. I have a saltwater fish tank I just bought a house. I sell guitars and amps with my onternet business. I would really like to study magic. Sometimes I feel as If theres not enough time in the day. Plus I work full time. How could I included it in my day to day life. I hope some one could help me. I really don't want to get out of the art of magic all together

Wow...I think there has got to be more stuff for you to do. There is, after all, 24 hours in a day!
Seriously, slow down! Enjoy your magic and take it one day at a time. Magic is all about the journey, not the destination, as they say. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Find something magical you enjoy doing and just do it. Carry it with you and when you have a free moment, and feel like it, practice it. Show it to others as you go about your day. If you don't worry about it, have fun and make it enjoyable and not too complicated, you'll find plenty of opportunity to practice and perform your magic. Good luck. Mark. |

Practice one fairly simple routine in the little spare time you have.
When you master that one, move on to another one. You're right when you say that there's not enough time in the day.Sometimes we just have to make a choice. |

A journey of a thousand miles begin with the first step and every step after that. Likewise your journey in magic should also be a step at a time.
Learn something new, then work on it, perfect it and then perform to the audience and come back to finetune it again. Then learn the second item and do the same thing. It is not how much you learn but how well you learnt it and do it. Don't be too caught up with so much out there. Take things one step at a time. |

Most folks these days are very busy.
I have a full time job and part time business at home. I have many hobbies, all of which I am very passionate about. Painting, Cooking, Gardening (yard work), Stain Glass, Carpentry, and Magic. That is a lot, but I am hard headed and do not want to give any of them up. I can only really concentrate on one at a time, my passion will alternate between all of them. Now that the kids are grown and gone I do have more "spare" time to do my own thing. However, it is still very hard to be really good at so many things. My wife has her own hobbies, so we kind of do our own things. Just hang in there, take it one day at a time, it WILL all work out in the end. Good luck.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

Get it all organized, that will help, from the way you posted it you give the impression that while you are doing a lot of things, you really don't have it all organized. Organizing your practice will help a lot too. Gerald Edmundson's The Ostrich Factor is a great book on how to practice magic, every magician should have it. He is a member here, his screen name is Gerald. I believe the site for his book is: http://www.geraldedmundson.com/tof1/whatistof.htm
Magic can be practiced when you have those rare moments of waiting, etc. You can work on a card move, coin move, sponge ball move, etc. while waiting in line, waiting for someone, etc. Most of us carry something around with us and practice at such times. I've done coin tenkai and back palms in my pocket while waiting in lines for checkout or for a table at a restaurant. But take it from another very busy man, if you get it all organized you will be surprised how much time you actually have. You waste a huge amount of time not being organized.

I consider coin magic to be good for a busy person.
Because you can always just pull coins out and practice moves. I am always playing with coins while: watching TV, waiting for my 2-year-old to poop in the potty, during poker night, right now, doctor's office. |

Photius, thanks for the link, that looks great!
I have to 2nd the ideas above: - it's a journey - practice where you can, when you can (rinse, lather, repeat) Just don't go sawing people in half while standing in line at the post office

I tell my son 15 minutes a day is better than 2 hours on Sunday. Your brain need time to process the information. And I agree about organization, it would help me as well.

You stated that you play the guitar.. When you were first learning how to play the guitar, did you practice 2 hours everyday for the first 3 months? Probably not. You might practice 10-15 minutes some days and an hour or 2 on other days.
I play the guitar and do magic, but I practice whenever I have the time and the urge to do so. It shouldn't feel like homework. Whenever you have time and want to practice, then practice. You will learn it eventually, even if you can not always practice. |

I also pretty much have a large workload everyday...sadly, some of the time that I should be dedicating to work often gets lost as I pull out a deck of cards and practice sleights and flourishes. I would not suggest you do the same.
Learning magic is a slow process. Take your time and you will reap the rewards eventually. |

It's a challenge most of us face. The answer is a) to focus on one or two tricks until they are as good as you can make them and b) make sure you have your equipment/books with you always so any dead time can become practice time.
Good luck! Andrew |
