I wonder, do you remember the three first coin routines you've learned as a beginner? And why you've decided to learn these one? Or cards routine- if you're a cardman?

Cards is a tough one since I learned a few at a very early age.

The very basic key card location which my two young grandkids (5 and 8) have attempted to do on me.

I am a card man but to remember the first card tricks is very difficult

other than that I know I have a few trick decks starting off

I'm listening to you, I mainly wonder what has motivated your choices...

COINS
-Gregarious coins
(a routine where you repeatedly show 3 coins, put one in your pocket but one always flys back to join the other two to make three. Main technique: finger palm and Bobo switch)
-Coins through table (similar techniques + la**ing)

CARDS
- reversed card
- 'chameleon card' card transposition (indifferent card to selection)
- Ambitious card routine (a classic that will last as long as magicians do)
- Card in Pocket
- card at any number
(simple card control/shuffles used & generally just DL's and glides. C-in-P required a palm but misdirection was integral part of routine so even as a beginner felt confident to do it).

All these routines are strong, classic routines. The classics are classics for a good reason. However, good modern stuff comes along - with cards I like omni deck and wiregram. Techniquely easy, but powerful in impact. Modern classics in my view. Paperclipped by Jay Sankey is another modern classic (techniquely more demanding however requiring you to master a certain move called the Mercury c*** f***)

I'm not a great coin fan and don't use the above anymore. However I have a coin unique I like using sometimes. Nowdays I prefer a bill switch (TT) and money tricks with notes (bills) rather than coins.

Coins "across" where 1 went into each hand and 1 on top of each palm up knuckle.

Coin vanished under hanky even though checked by "3" spectators.

The coin rubbed into elbow vanish.

Like Harris, one of the first one I learned was the coin rub into the elbow.

The other two:
Coin in a bottle - I loved it from the moment I first saw it.
I don't know the names of the last one, but it was done with an upside-down champagne glass, a half dollar, an english penny, and an ashtray. You put the penny in the ashtray and covered it with the glass. You pushed the half dollar on the glass and POP the half was in the ashtray with the penny.

I guess I always was fascinated with the illusion of making a coin go through solid glass in full view.

I started magic with coins and cards. But after years I became a manipulator but I love close up and card magic. First tricks I learned are, Scott and Soda, coins through table and some simple manipulations with coins. But with cards I start with doublelift and card in pocket. Than Elmsley Count and Twisting Aces.

I know some of them are hard to learn first but I really gave my time and listen my mentor. When you can perform these in first years of your magic lifeyou became very happy.
