They did the same thing to Heinlein with "Starship Troopers"
The broad strokes were there, but the major theme of the book got left on the cutting room floor (if it was filmed at all). |

In that case, I'm glad I missed it.
OTOH, I doubt you could get Heinlein's "slightly to the right of fascism" style of politics in a film made today.

That's true. International film and DVD sales play havoc on censoring what makes it into a film, not to mention, studios don't want to alienate a chunk of their demographic over an idea or a line that some nut will translate into a slam against their narrow mind. That's one of the reasons Indie films really took off in the 90's. In any case, the union voted on a strike beginning November first, that is, unless one of the writers comes up with a twist, writes an alternate ending or ends up on the editing room floor.
