Has anyone experienced a problem with their gaffed cards getting much grimier than the regular cards in a packet trick? I've just started doing a 3 Card Monte with gaffed cards (mis-indexed). The normal 3-of-clubs looks great while the 2 mis-indexed cards look as if they've been out in the street for a couple of days ... and this after only a couple days of fairly regular practice (maybe 50-60 handlings). They're actually picking up red smudges from my close-up pad. Is this normal with gaffed cards? Will a soapy sponge clean the cards like new??

Hey Larry, It was good to see you the other day at the Chest. I haven't had a problem with gaff cards wearing faster than regular because they normally are the from the same stock and ink. It might be what you are carrying them in. I know my himber wallet leaves a black residue on cards from the glue in wallet. So the cards on the oustide get grimey while the cards on the inside stay nice and fresh. I wouldn't suggest using a soapy sponge because water will just warp the cards. Use a small amount of water, like a damp paper towell and gently wipe them but don't really let them get too wet. If they get too wet they will warp and lose their snap.
I think it is just coincidence that the gaff cards get dirtier.

Hey, JC -
This is a brand new trick right out of my magic drawer ... hasn't been stored in a wallet. I'll bring it by and let you peek at 'em. All the cards are apparently Bicycle stock, but you'll see, the gaffed cards are smudged and nasty ... while the regular card is nice and clean. [I'm talking to the point that a spectator would notice the discrepancy]. I was actually practicing this trick to show you after you shared your handling of Entourage, but I saw on another post that you too do Skinner’s Ultimate Three Card Monte. Oh well, you have to watch me anyway. Regards, Larry

I could see how the oil from your skin and the constant touching of the index while the rest of the card is handled less could show more ware, but smudging?
I have used this, and never had them smudge. |

It depends how the cards have been printed. Are these cards printed by USPC? You can get them from me, I let them print at a specialised printing company and they look just as good as the original cards from USPC.

Greetings Larry;
Drop me your address and I will send you a couple sets of cards that have been factory printed. The only time I have ever seen what you are describing was when someone tried to print their own on a ink jet printer. Let me know if you use red or blue Bicycle cards when you send me your address. I would swear that these are USPC cards, but I could be wrong. At the risk of taking some abuse, my gaffs are from Million Dollar Monte by Magic Makers. I picked them up at one of the magic shops on the strip in Vegas (before I even heard of Magic Makers).
I really appreciate the offer, Marty. I'll PM you. Regards, Larry

Hey Larry, We've got the official Skinners Ultimate 3 Card Monte at the Chest. We used to sell Million Dollar Monte but changed as soon I found out I could get Skinner's (the Less Magic Makers we carry, the better).
I would also second getting a hold of Marty. He hooked me up with a good deal on gaff cards and is a very nice guy. By the way, Thanks Marty!

Yes, Marty took good care of me and I even ordered a few items from his site. He has some great stuff. And then there's Card-Shark's website ... talk about some nice looking cards. I'm already eye-balling his set for Gypsy Curse ... much more authentic looking than the ones that come with the original. Sounds like a good weekend for Magic Saturday at the Chest! Regards, Larry

Man, the Chest is going to be busy due to Halloween.
I agree with you about the Card Sharks Gypsy Curse cards, I just got done going over Derek Dingle's Handling for the trick and was also thinking about grabbing Card Sharks Set.

I have Christian's Gypsy Curse, as well as some other items. He does very fine work. If you're at all inclined, I can't reccommend his stuff enough.

I could have simply PM'd you to thank you for the gaffs, but I wanted others to know the quality items you offer. I bought a couple of tricks from Marty's website and they are top notch. His gard gaffs are indistinguishable from USPC Bikes ... maybe the are?? Thanks, Mark, for the recommendation on Card-Shark's products. I'm going to have to break open my piggy bank once again.
