PN, then Tony Clark's in and out rope escape (does that count?).
I am now doing more from Mark Wilson's Complete course book. I don't remember the name right off. I am now hooked however, and hope to learn much much more about the knotted up ways of rope magic! Danton

First rope trick I learned? That was over 60 years ago, and it was the cut and restored rope I learned from a long-forgotten book from the library.
I first practiced it with rope from my Mother's clothes line, and got a standing ovation...right on my rear end. Later she softened and bought me a 50-foot hank of rope from Woolworth's, and I've never stopped doing rope magic since that time. True story! Andy

Since we are talking about shoe laces here, which I learned to do at 5 the age of 5. If you perform the first half of "the Hunter bow knot" it becomes a perfect one step bow that never ceases to amaze kids. What a spooky avatar.

A routine I first remember seeing J.B. Bobo do in his school shows, involving knots and bows. At least I think the one I learned was the one he did. I was about 7 when I saw the routine and about 10 when I learned the rope routine. I may have slept a couple of nights in between.

(circa 1957). I even went over and visited him a few times in Texarkana, while I was living in Clarksville, TX some 70 miles away, before he died in later years. Both Bobo and Fred Story gave me a lot of advice when I set out to do school shows, advice that saved me a fortune and gave me a lot of success. It has been decades since I did that routine. I remember some of the knots and especially the whole schitck of tying the bow ("see that is my name BoBo", as I remember his patter went)threading the ends through it and magically making it come out untied. But I really don't remember the entire routine. I learned it from a guy in the Dallas magic club way back when, who learned it (or stole it) from Bobo. I think he is long dead now too. No DVD I know of, and I'm not feeling very well myself these days. LOL.

Hi all,
My first trick with rope was Restored rope, as it is method where the shorter one simply "vanishes" and the longer expands in length, while I threw that over head. Well ... I was round 6 or 7 years old, so no sleight of hand etc. |

Welcome to the magic Café. John doesn't think there is any demand for this great routine, so the only thing I can think of is if you come over to my house, I'll teach it to you.
