Andrew,
as someone very familiar with the internet, you certainly also are very familiar with the problem of pirated e-books. What is your take on that, should we actually continue to produce e-books, as it makes the distribution via the net easier - for us, but also for the pirates? Andy

Not making ebooks isn't really an option. I find scanned versions of my printed stuff online frequently. So I don't really see it as a matter of putting something into ebook form or not. It really comes down to whether or not you want to share it with people or just keep it to yourself and maybe only teach it in a lecture. I think a lot of people just don't care. Personally, I don't even use P2P programs to get music or shows. I think it's hypocritical for me to criticize people stealing my stuff if I'm stealing music or TV. Not to impugn the fine folks here, but I bet at least half illegally download stuff on a regular basis. Knowing that, what's going to stop them from stealing your material? Nothing. Fortunately, the other half are ethical about it and pay for it. So thank you to everyone who buys my stuff. I am very grateful for that. |

Andrew - while on the subject - do you plan to offer any more ebooks in the future?

I do go at it through a virus standpoint though. You never know what someone else has added to a file (the definition of a trojan fits here). If they are paying me to recover their files and do a virus removal, they tend to listen. It can get annoying loosing all their data or paying to have their computer cleaned. |
