I found the Café while googling (?!) for haunted key ideas. I saw the neon lights...I smiled. "Magicians Helping Magicians"...what a great idea! I read the many forums and grinned. What a nice place! I found a topic, and question, that I had experience with so here I am with who I am!
I became a magician almost by accident back in 1980. A co-worker was amazing everyone by vanishing a small square of silk in his bare hand. I knew this trick from the many magic sets I had as a kid and winked at him with a smile. He was delighted to find a fellow "magician" (that was his only trick and I could barely palm a coin. lol) because he heard the company was looking for entertainment at the upcoming children's Christmas party. He wanted to make a buck and talked me into doing a show together. We went to Tannen's in NYC. He bought a ton of tricks. I bought five tricks and several books on entertaining kids. We did the show. He went through his collection in about 12 minutes. It was like a dealer show! Then I did 4 tricks, with memorized routines and bits-of-business, and took it for the next half-hour to the end. I fell in love with it. The laughter, the fun, the feeling of power! They were actually responding like the books said! My friend sold off most of his stuff (some to me, of course) and never went any further. I started getting requests after that for birthday parties and day care shows. This grew into a very nice part-time business for many years. Then, near the end of '88, the company was sold and they let everyone go. I was a little annoyed as I has just worked my way up to the engineering department, getting into software development, and wasn't through with them yet! Most were worried about finding new jobs but I wondered if I could do this full-time. They gave me a nice severance package for all my years of service, so I decided to go for it. So, since January 1st, 1989, I've been doing magic for children as a full time professional. Though I did some adult shows at the start, I found my niche in working with kids. That's all I do nowadays. Birthday parties for 3 to 8 year olds, magic workshops for 9 and up. Daycares and preschools, scouts and family groups. If they need fun for kids, I'm there! Well, I'd better wrap up here before I get my name bounced for being too long-winded. This looks like a wonderful place for people like us! I've found some good ideas already and I hope to share and help others in the true spirit of the Café. My best to all, Jerry P.S. I was chagrined to see the same rabbit in the hat gif that I found for my website right here in the Café's list of smilies! It's been on my website for years and I didn't steal it from here, honest! I stole it from somewhere else.

Thanks, Kathryn and Chrystal, for the welcome to the Café. It's going to take a while to check the whole place out!
Anybody know why the final "e" in "cafe" gets replaced with a question mark? Wait, I know, I should check the archives for the answer. And, Chrystal, I really, really wanted that cute bunny on my website! I found it at the same time I found the bunny in hat. Then I settled on a yellow background and that was that. The poor thing almost vanished against all that yello... hmmmmmmmmmmm...
