I want to do a color change from a kennedy half to a 1/2 dollar "blank" (un stamped coin), or a copper disc the size of a 1/2. Any ideas where to find such an item?
Thanks |

You might try coin dealers, every now and then a blank planchette shows up.

I've seen colored coins for sale on some magic shop sites, will they work? They look anodized and come in a variety of colors such as red, blue and green I believe!

A machine shop can create blanks for you even with the milling on the edge.
They can produce them since they have specialized equipment to make almost anny thing you request. They have suppliers of all types of metal stock, and other materials. I`m shure your local machine shops have made gaffs for magicians in the past.

Blank planchettes actually fall under the classification of mint errors. If you want the real thing, search E-Bay, the Internet, Coin Dealers, etc.

I would try to find someone who could stamp out a "blank" disc. And then if you wanted it to have the milled edges I would contact one of the Coin Gods. Either Todd or Jamie.
Let us know how this goes for you! Have a great day! Corey |

It looks like I need to find a machine shop. Anyone know one in the Baltimore area that caters to magicians?

The results will be good since they can make the items exactilly the way you specify I can take a silver coin and chuck it up in my lathe, and remove the faces on each side.will have to use a silver since a silver clad copper coin will look copper when its turned LOL. That copper coin can be used in a silver to copper effect. something interesting to work with

Tpax,
you get a few halves from the bank and sand both side and there you have it. it works just fine, just make sure you sand them even. |

If usable in your routine, and holes are not an issue, metal washers come in half dollar sizes.

Quote: I tryed that with some Iron coins I made from a iron skillet, but didn't have good results, the coins rocked when stacked ,I have to rework them for a buddy if he sends them back to me so I can undercut the center section on the lathe like real coins have.On 2007-10-31 22:40, WU wrote:

Last night I turned several Kenedy halves on the lathe. They looked good ,but cut into the copper core somewhat Anny one serious in wanting some I can use all silver coins for a silver look.I can also cut deeper in the copper for a copper coin look if you`d like.

I don't know if it would be useful, but I have a penny that is the size of a half, no milled edges. I got it at a magic shop, likely Hank Lee's.

I took a kennedy half glued it to a flat surface with some strong epoxy. Then took a grinder to it, until I got to the copper, just under the surface. I only did one side, for a spell bound routine
