If you perform at a Children's birthday partys, do you prefer doves or fish?

Goldfish are certainly easier. And the one animal parents will often allow the kid to keep is a goldfish. They probably do not get the strong reaction of a more showy animal...like a rabbit or a bird. But typically with a GF production you also produce water. So, for pure practicality, the Goldfish is not a bad route and is the one I would choose, unless of course I was already doing dove work.'

I use both in my act, and the doves generally get more of an audience reaction.
However, I've had kids who, once they realize the goldfish is real, seem to be just as interested. (The main difference is that they don't ask if they can pet the goldfish!) Andrew |

I have produced a fish bowl with large goldfish, and I have produced doves at kid parties. However, I believe that the simple production of a rabbit can’t be topped for a strong audience reaction. I have noted that the rabbit gets a strong reaction from adult audiences as well as from the kids. You will be surprised how few people have ever seen a live rabbit.

I use goldfish and a rabbit. I tried doves, but they take a lot of care and are noisy.
My rabbit is responsible for doubling my rate. I use Marty Martini's Balloon to Rabbit Box. The load chamber is so big, I know the rabbit is safe and comfortable. When I do fish (only in Spring and Summer) I do my own ariel fishing, followed by U.F. GRANTS, Vintage Flying Fish. I picked up a set from a Hocus Pocus estate sale (where I buy most of my magic, I seldom buy new tricks, not made like they used to be). I use a battery powered air pump to keep the fish alive in a plastic jar behind my stand. I do the trick early in the act. I turn off the pump, steal the fish and do the trick. I finish it with Mac King's fish in mouth, then use this fish in Flying Fish. It gets a huge reaction. But again, it's messy. My rabbit, who is not messy and closes my act, still gets the biggest reaction of anything I do, and it is the rabbit I am remembered for... not the fish. |

I prefer to produce a fish, because it will be my present to the child.
Dear Mystic: I guess you are a very nice person, because of the way you care about your animal. That`s very nice. |

The MAK double load for the Square Circle allowed you to produce two real fishbowls with fish. Those did not leave the learning center with me. I use to use fish. Doves are easier to travel with because no water will spill while driving. And the doves can be seen farther away.

So this, I think, about sums it up:
1) Easier productions with goldies, but water spillage and keeping alive issues during acts 2) More flash with doves, but greater upkeep and living with their noise at home Than of course there are the rabbits 3) Greatest impact of all on kids, but they are 24 hour poop machines Seems one has to pick their poison than

There is no question that doves are much more visual at any distance!

It is easier to do fish from mouth than dove from mouth . . .
Also if the water leaks in a body load it can be embarassing. *G* I learned from experience. I also learned rabbits "leak" too. Very embarassing. |
