It's the second phase that I'm having trouble with, where you hold the ring and "move" it up and down the band: it just doesn't seem that convincing to me. DOes anyone know of a clip where this is demo'd, or perhaps post one? That would be great!
Also...the third phase, using the Lorayne "Snap" procedure to get the ring looped on the (secretly doubled) band. The get ready is very fiddly: how do you make it look like you "link the ring on the band" rather than (as mine looks now) you "fiddling around for a few seconds and then there's the ring on the band." in other words, how do you make it look like magic and not some sort of rubber band origami? Thanks Ross |

I do "pinnicle" with the "rhing thing" finish, a far superior routine. What you are trying to learn is not the state of the art in rubber band magic, so I can't help you.

My original Snap! is state of the art. I don't know what Ammar has wrought. HARRY LORAYNE.

Harry: I too would find it hard to improve on "Snap" as a broken/restored effect. What Ammar teaches (in The Magic Of Michael Ammar) and which he credits to Mike Giles from Ca, is a way of using the "Snap" set-up for a ring-on-band effect.
Trouble is, there is no "moment". That is, you cannot see the ring go onto the band. All you see (so far as I can tell by trying it out) is: 1. The band stretched between your fingers (as in the lead-in to "Snap")with the ring on the two strands 2. Some fiddling around (which cannot be observed too closely) and then hey presto! The ring's on the band. It all looks highly suspicious. Unlike "Snap" where the "fiddling" (the get-ready) can be done on the off-beat and besides - once you have "fiddled" everything looks as it should anyway, diverting any suspicion. Al - it's a shame you don't know this one. I was hoping you'd come to my rescue. Must check out Rhing Thing: is there a video of it anywhere? |

At the risk of offending Mr. Lorayne again you can go to http://www.flipsideproductions.com/MAGIC/FLRT.htm and see the demo of both "found link", and "rhing thing" the demo will speak for it self. I also have a few rubber band tricks up on my web site at http://www.juggleral.com With all due respect to Michael Ammar in the relm of rubber band magic he is only famous for CMH.

I will defer to Mr. Lorayne, and the Godfather who make me look like a beginner. I have my version of Vinny's "breakaway bracelet" on my web site, but nobody does it as good as the godfather does it.

Thank you Vinny and Al - very helpful as always! Quick question: Jeff Pierce's "The Joining" - is it like The Rhing Thing (the link to which is down, BTW)?

Jeff Pierce is a good friend of Vinny, so I will let the godfather answer that one. "Rhing Thing" looks a lot like "Snap" to the audience with one exception, with "rhing thing" you can do the a one handed display, much like the ending of "Found link" which you can find on my web site.

Hello Ross, just as a quick side note I'd recommend tracking down Barry Govan's "Ring Link." The phase that you are seeing a weakness in is handled brilliantly. The band is never doubled over and the ring is CLEARLY show moving it up and down as you mentioned and even hanging from the band.
I have used Barry's handling for 15 years or more and it will fool the hell out of anyone. I can't tell you how many magicians I have caught off guard with it even though they are well versed in he Kalush and Ammar handlings. I think you'd love it.

Hey! I normally include "Ring band it" when performing rubber band magic. I prefer to do the second phase first and the first phase second.( If you follow=)) I get a better rhythm this way. The originally second phase is a clean and strong handling for me. You don´t need any complicated set up to do the move... (Sorry a don´t have any video clip of it =(.
I have tried a couple of handling's and Ring band it is the most practical for me... All the best! Fredrik

Hi Ross yes ring thing and the joining are similar but the handlings are very different and with ring thing you get the one handed display, which is very powerful..
Ross if you want a demo just pm me ill send it your way, vinny |

I love Ammar's routine. I do the 2nd phase quickly, kind of like a Ramsey feint. Then you kill them with the third phase (which does need some misdirection to setup).
