Does anyone know what Debby Henning is up to? Does she still have any involvement in magic?

Debby has to date neither communicated publicly her current whereabouts or her current activities.
Until she does so (if she ever does), one could safely presume she enjoys her peace and quiet. |

I think after selling off all of Doug's stuff, she has moved on.

I recall reading that she is in Canada. It would be awesome if she ever wrote a book about their life. But alas, we have to respect her right to privacy. Did Doug do any interviews after he exited Magic performances?

Mr. Henning did an "In His Words" Q&A with Magic magazine, published in October of '99.

He was also interviewed for "Magic's Greatest Illusions", talking about his elephant vanish and Water Torture Cell escape.

A friend of mine worked for Doug about the time he got married to Debby. This was right before the ill-fated show with the half-vanishing television set.
Debby mentioned that she was a writer, so my friend asked her what she wrote. She answered, "Prose."

Hi Bill,
I have all of the Henning specials and have researched his career thoroughly. I don't remember ever seeing a half-vanishing television (or a full-vanishing television, for that matter). Are you sure that was Doug? I know Debby was an artist/painter. |

Yes, it was Doug.
It was the last completely live special he did. I say "half-vanishing television set." It was a television set that didn't get quite all the way gone. If you didn't get the show during the original broadcast, or if you live in California, where they may have had an opportunity to clean up the broadcast, you might not have it on the video.

If I recall the special correctly, there were a series of brief interludes with a television set on a low table.

Hi Bill,
The only show that had brief interludes with a television set on a low table was David Copperfield's "The Magic of ABC". The last live Henning show was 1978 (the rest, through '82, were taped) and featured ancient magic in China, England, and Egypt - so no TV set magic there. |

Debby (not Debbie) had her B.F.A. from Cooper Union in NYC and was a successful graphic artist.
She also did summer stock and studied theater arts in the years before meeting Doug. |

Wasn't it Debby that got Doug involved in East Indian, etc. stuff?

I'll have to check this with some friends of mine who taped all of those Henning specials. Doug also directed this special himself.
Posted: Nov 21, 2007 12:29am -------------------------------- I see where I made at least one mistake. Debby was Doug's second wife. His first wife, Barbara, was the writer. Her name is Barbara DeAngelis, and she was probably the one who introduced Doug to TM. She was married to Doug during 1978. I don't have more specific information about the duration of that marriage. Here is one web site that unbags the cat. http://www.rickross.com/reference/gray/gray3.html So, my apologies to Debby, both for misspelling her name, and accusing her of writing for Doug's show.

Barbara DeAngelis wrote books and lectured on relationships, although she had a number of failed marriages. I was told this by a woman that knew her at one time.

Dear Friends, Debby Henning is alive and wonderful as ever. She is an incredible songwriter/singer carrying on the true magic of life. Her first album of songs, entitled "I Like to Fly", all of the songs of which she wrote, mostly performed and recorded as well, is available at: http://www.musicmall.globalgoodnews.com/liketofly.html Have an incredible treat to this music of the beautiful Debby Henning.

Pretty sad that she's still into that racket/cult..and promoting their message.
"I Like To Fly"---what she she means is: she likes to bounce up & down on a padded floor, while in a sitting in a lotus position. Sad. |

What's sad Moxahalla is your aggressive effort to diminish Debby Henning as a person, for simply living her life the way she chooses to live it.
Your post is truly the only sad thing in this thread. |
