Hello All,
A number of routines I am currently considering require a silver dollar sized ( Morgan or Eisenhower) gold coin. Obviously the real thing is very expensive. Any tips or suggestions on where I can purchase gold-plated silver dollar sized coins? I'd appreciate it. Thanks for your time.

I had a morgan dollar plated at my jewelers. It was too expensive, really. It makes a nice midas touch trick!. The plating has worn/scratched off in places but it still holds up pretty well. If you can get someone to plate it for less than I did it might be worth it. It does not look quite as good as the belt buckle coin though. Probably, they plated mine with too thin a layer.

I did find a gold colored 1933 double eagle. It looks like the real coin except for the word "copy" stamped on the back in small letters. It is the most expensive coin if it was real. I found the one I have through a coin dealer.

Hello All,
My intentions may not have been clear. I apologize for that.

What I'm looking for are American silver dollar SIZED gold plated coins. It doesn't matter whether they are morgans or eisenhowers. For instance:

In Dan Watkins routine- Midas something or other, he intoduces an American silver dollar SIZED gold coin. To compliment his Dollar sized coins.

In David Neighbors routines, International Coin Routines, he also introduces a gold plated silver dollar SIZED coin.

The coin itself is not important. It can be from any country or any continent however, the size is. The size has to be as close as possible to an American Silver Dollar outside diameter.
What I'm looking for is a gold-plated, american, european, canadian etc, outside diameter that matches the outside diameter of a American Silver Dollar?

What do you folks use? Where have you picked them up? Have you spray painted them yourself.

A facsimile, phony, carbon copy of an American Silver dollar SIZED Gold Coin? I'm sure you folks use them in your routines. Am I still not clear?

I appreciate all of the post's above

Thanks for your time,
Jim

I personally don't know about replica gold coins, etc. I just happened to be given a gold coin that was the size of a Morgan as a gift.

Hi

I bought one of the Chinese Horoscope Coins - slightly larger than the Morgan - but it does the job.

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Collectible-Coi......Z2QQtZkm

It makes a nice story - old silver coin for year of my birth, horoscope etc...

50% silver and gold plated - not had any problems in flaking etc. Handled a lot over the last year. Good milled edge.

Hope that helps.

Hello,
Thank you all for your responses. Howard-Are you alluding to the coin trick " Gold Rush"? Do you think a 1864 gold coin replica is roughly the same size as a silver dollar?

Once again, thanks to all.

This may be of little interest to you jimmyj, but for those that use smaller coins, I use a 50-cent Euro coin with US quarters. The alloy of the Euro coin is called "Nordic Gold", but contains no real gold. But after it's introduction I call it a gold coin (sounds so much better than a copper alloy coin, doesn't it?).

Hello,
Thanks to all for the info and suggestions. Kyf-Those are some swanky looking coins. I just ordered Qty 4. Aquarius. I believe these will be ideal for my purposes. Thanks for the tip.

Just found this link for many other gold plated US coins. Most are replica coins.
