Does bleaching get them actually white?
and does it degrade the quality of the sponge?

I'd like to nominate this for "Post of the Year (2007)".

No not white, but an off white color. Yea, I think it will degrade the quality.

I never seen any white sponge balls. I pretty sure why. The dirt will pick up too quick.

The best way to make them white is to dye the yellow ones.

I am also looking for white sponge balls.

I've seen white sponge type eggs. $8 each Yikes!

I saw a trick with white sponge eyeballs.

So there are white sponge balls somewhere.

I believe Dan Garrett has some white ones...called "snowballs" I have some and will check the maker on the package.

I imagine they would yellow, quickly. It reminds me of a song. "Watch out where those Huskies go...don't you eat that yellow snow." - Frank Zappa

They don't strike me as being the kind of sponge balls to use where food is served. lol

Yeah, best shot is to get them made by someone. Second best shot is to make them yourself by either dying it (you won't get a perfect white) or getting white foam and cutting it into the shape you need (you won't get a perfect ball but this is how magicians used to do it before Goshman came around). Do not bleach sponge balls, they will get soft and gooey and unusable.

At Walgreen's or other pharmacies you can find round puck shaped sponges that are (unfortunatly) sliced like a pie. These are so you can pull off a pie piece at a time to add or remove makeup. If we could just find out where those are made it would be enough. The material is Fantastic. Dense yet soft.

The dollar stores sell whoopie cushions with foam inside so you don't have to blow them up.
The foam inside is white and perfect for making sponge balls.

Manal - How did you discover this information? Did you wear out your whoopie cusion? Why would you take a whoopy cusion apart? It is so funny what we magicians get into for our art! I love it! I'm off to the dollar store...

My 5 yr. old wore it out from playing with it so much. He then took it apart and there it was, the elusive white sponge.

How about cotton balls? I know it's not the same, but it could suggest a theme.
