Hi Curtis, I was curious if you ever do any one coin routines? I just read one over at the coin purse and I like it very much. If you go there you know that the person that wrote it set some restrictions for himself, like not having any other props envolved. I think that adding for instance a simple Bic pen could add a few effects. For instance, coin coming from the pen cap, and a striking vanish, ending with the coin going back into the cap.
Just curious. Thanks Curtis.
Check out my new effect "As Good As It Gets" a gimmickles pencil or pen through bill effect. It closely mimmicks the slow motion phase of "Misled." About "As Good AS It Gets" for no gimmicks and everything being borrowed.

Ben, a few one-coin sequences just fell together for me a couple of weeks ago. Then, I was discussing the problem of repetitious effects with PSC at another thread, and it again came up. So yes, it seems I do have a bit of one coin material.
I suspect most guys start collecting this stuff early on, there's just something reassuring about knowing you've got a few minutes of solid magic, and all you need is a coin. There are a few in Bobo's, and Jules D'hotel's was published in Genii in the seventies, I think. Of course, everyone has a different idea of what sequences go together. My current routine is something of an ad lib, drawing from a collection of riffs including: Roth's flurry, including the spider vanish to production from a spectator or under something on the table. The coin that falls up, follwed by Carney's fingertip vanish, a wipe, and a reproduction. The coin in the eye. That's one I don't have the proper vocabulary to describe here, I have to find a name for one sleight. The repeat coin though hand, I have just put together, includes the Bobo vanish a backpalm, and the muscle pass. Ammar's routine where a coin goes up your sleeve, vanishes, and goes up your sleeve again. Coin rolls, and two vanishes based on it, only one is generally known, A coin from sleeve, shown to me by John Kennedy. The vanished coin is in fingerpalm, the hands appear empty. The palming hand tugs on the opposite sleeve, releasing the coin to shoot into the palm of the other hand, apparently from the sleeve. John Kennedy's "Flutter" from AOA. Requires a paper cocktail napkin, The "through the pants pocket" penetrations from Bobo's. These look great, and provide a convenient ending to the routine. A vanish where the coin is deliberately placed into the left hand via the thumbhole, and vanished. Sort of like Leipzig's "Right there" the coin is stolen into backclip position. Sometimes, a sequence involving the tenkai Pennies move used to explain how a coin, in the act of passing from one hand to another, is, for a moment, in both hands at once. The "Uncertainty principle" in action. Sometimes, angles permitting, the slow motion coin vanish. A Downs palm sequence inspired by something I saw Rick Anderson do in the early seventies, a coin is simply vanished into and out of downs palm right in front of a spectator. The effect is stunning. I have added a french drop to allow a third vanish to be clean. Speaking of Downs palm, here's a sequence. vanish and reproduce a coin at chest level, in front of you. Offer to show someone what it looks like from backstage. Reach around the most attractive (to you ) person there, she (let's assume) watches the sequence seeing into your hands. Do a vanish and recovery out of Downs palm, and she sees nothing, and neither do the spectators. The Pulse Trick. A light sequence showing that the coin has two heads and two tails using a paddle move from Sol Stone, I think, in Apocalypse long ago. Kainoa's coin from thumb. Kainoa's "Over the Top" spider My transposition between the coin and an invisible coin. You'd probably have to see this. Bertram's coin thru glass. Wear eye protection. As an ending, I like to turn the coin into a handful of small change (usually available, in spite of my best efforts) or I figure I'll steal the spectator's watch. (Really gonna learn this someday.) That's the basis of it, more stuff sort of floats in and out. We haven't even considered the back of the neck concealment, sleeveing, or stuff on the table. I also consider the addition of a so-called "karate coin" fair play. I much prefer the "Roth" version, i.e. a coin with a hole in it. The "realistic" version is a bit much. (But one might make for a real interesting coda to Michael Rubenstein's "Fusion") My routine (with the K-coin) will appear when Palms 3 appears. It's called "through and through" and combines a selection of penetration effects into a pleasing whole. So, Ben, I suppose the short answer to your question is "yup".

Wow, thanks for all the info Curtis. I am starting to like this one coin deal, and I don't know if anyone has done this before, but I am using a part of Big Coin Little purse from Garret Thomas for a coin into pen cap. I do the same move just with a regular half dollar, and it looks pretty good. I was thinking about putting a mini plastic coin inside the pen cap, to prove it is actually inside.

I find a magnet in the back pocket and an extra magnetic half can work wonders for a One Coin routine, as can double sided tape or a glue stick. Korem had an interesting vanish from the elbow, set up by a "coin catch" juggling presentation.
Two real problems with the One Coin (or Flurry) routine: (1) knowing when to stop and (2) creating the perfect climax. In these respects, the trick is very similar to the Ambitious Card.
Details make perfection, but perfection is no detail.

Ben, I like the micro coin idea. I assume you've tried the production of the coin from pencap using edge grip? This might be aperfect application, because the micro coin give you a great reason to stick the cap right up to their eyes, which is requisite for EG display purposes.
