After the reprint of Juan Tamariz' Five Points of Magic (which is selling very nicley), Stephen Minch told me the next projects will be two volumes with the magic of Geoff Latta. One volume with his coin magic, and one with his card magic. Both will be big ones.
Tom Stone will hopefully be out with his book soon. And a book by Bob Neal is also in the planning stage. The Latta book(s) will probably be out in the middle of next year, so Tom's or Bob's book will come out between.

Thanks for the update.
I also saw several months ago that Wesley James had been working on Enchantments2 with Hermetic. Have you heard anything on this? Thanks again, J.Manuel

I think Hermetic Press may have taken the mantle from Kaufman (whom I still greatly admire) as THE premier magic book publisher today. Looking forward to the Latta and James books.

Andy,
Kaufman set the standard of what a magic book ought to be. Big. High quality paper. Well written. Well illustrated. And expensive -- probably the best marketing ploy ever conceived for the magic world. (How many of us now won't even TOUCH a book under $30 even though there are many out there?) And it worked like gangbusters. Kaufman books are the highly prized additions to magic libraries everywhere and Richard has become the best. Again for the content, quality, writing and illustrations. But, while Kaufman is a superb writer and illustrator as his prodigious output can attest, as he's often written in his own company's forum, the demands of his magazine have greatly cut into his ability to publish new books these days on the scale that we'd become accustomed. In threads on his website's forum for "Mr.Jennings Takes It Easy", for example, a book that was due out a year ago it still hasn't made it out to magic shops. Minch's Hermetic Press, in the meantime, has been steadily publishing book after book, also well designed (if not more-so by the elegance of their covers as opposed to Kaufman's basic black) and, of course, well written and illustrated. So, yeah, I think Hermetic Press may have taken the mantle. Peter |

The remaining out of print Tamariz books will also be reprinted eventually. I think The Magic Way is next sometime in 2008.

I will add that Stephen Minch has a great editorial eye. When so many magic books are written poorly and then rushed to print without another thought, Stephen expends the necessary time and effort to make sure the task is done right.
