Hi got a private PM about the markers I use in my DVDs. The poster asked me to start a thread about it, so here goes.
I use two different types of mediums: Markers and Marking sticks The markers I prefer are MarksALot retractable chisel point pens. Available here: http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?level=SK&id=597160 I carry black, Red, Blue and green Tips: the black dries out the fastest. I try to use the blue and green more on dark or opposite color balloons. ie orange balloon blue marker looks blacker than a black marker on the same balloon. Same with red on a green balloon. I prefer the retractables because It is one hand operation, click and go!!! Marking Sticks I use the MeanStreak. http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?leve......&An=text Meanstreak is a marking stick, somewhere between a magic marker and a crayon. It makes a bold opaque stroke and can be used to fill large areas. It dries in less than 30 seconds. and in a minute can be markered over with a permeant marker. Even better you can work it wet with other meanstreaks one over the other. Comes in white, yellow, red and black. Why two different types? Sometime I need a bold stroke some times I need a finer line. As for the caps on the meanstreaks I set them down into my pen holders on my pouch. Eliminating the need to re-cap. Any other questions?

Thank you!!
YES that is Meanstreak at work. Doesn't it suck when you put two posts back to back and your posting numbers don't change? On another note: Just got off the phone with Ken Stillman we are trying to work out an East Coast /West Coast Balloon Retreat and Lecture. One in California and one in either Florida or North Carolina. Who would be interested in 3 days of intense balloon study with me and Ken Stillman? How interested would you be if the price included everything (balloons, food, room, and tuition) all you had to pay was travel and registration. Pick our brains about marketing, twisting, stories and over 50+ years of balloon knowledge. A general lecture would be presented the first day open to all then back to the Bat Cave!! Question is who is interested? How much would you pay for such a gathering? How much for a lecture with the two of us?

Mark, I'd be interested and I'm sure I'm not alone here in NC. As for fee - whatever's reasonable considering room, balloons and tuition are covered. It would be worth spending a couple of intense days locked away with you and Ken. Heck, you might succeed in pulling me out of my 160 addiction!

How about Las Vegas instead of CA.
Flights are cheaper. |

The Idea was to make it East Coast / West Coast deal. Ken and I want to keep it intimate. Possibly 6-10 people no holds barred Q&A, hands on work, and marketing. The one day lecture would be a teach in and overview. The next 3 days total worker stuff.
Las Vegas has too many distractions .... women, liquor and gambling. We are looking to rent a house, absorb the incidentals, feed people, and provide materials. This is still in the planning stages.... Myself I have been to several intense workshops, Professional Performers (Hollywood & Puerto Valletta) Master Class with Jeff McBride (twice!!) Comedy College ( 3 times) BAMM (2) and 5 Kidabras (one before it was called that!!) I have spent a thousand to several thousand dollars to be there at many of these. Ken & I would like to price this right. A real win /win for us and the participants.

Mark, Dave Bartlett does this with his annual Red Nose Roundtable power group. Once a year he gathers 20 hand-picked & top kidshow performers and clowns from the U.S. and Canada, sticks us all in a secluded beach house somewhere in the U.S.. The retreat allows us to learn from one another while brainstorming and perfecting new show & marketing ideas and concepts. This January we're headed to the Gulf area of Texas.
We all pay our own transportation costs and basically share the costs & chores for the week - usually running around $300 expense-wise (of course, we don't charge an "instructor fee"). Those who live within driving distance provide airport transportation. It's a fun retreat; a chance to relax among gifted peers and recharge our performance batteries. Well worth every penny and an annual event we all look forward to.

Wow that sounds neat .....hmm I've never been invited {((sniff))}
Altruistic as that sounds.... Ken and I are looking make some profit. We just thought it would be neat to make it inclusive, rather than people trying to find a room at a rate they feel comfortable with, where to eat, what to do. ect...

Mark, did you clip off the tip of your mean streak marker to make the eyes and trunk accent lines on the elephant???

Nope I just use my markers alot.
I try to rotate the pen as I stoke a line. Sort of like licking an Icecream cone. Wearing it on both sides. I really drag the side of the marker across. Since there is a screw that goes up the middle of the marking pen I use that to make small perfect circles by twisting the pen dead on.

I asked the same Q some months ago, I was able to get meanstreak from the States but not Marks Alot. I went all over the place trying to find a retractable marker but couldn't find one (apart from Sharpie but the problem with them is that if they burst the can smear) But I now have found one. If you register at http://www.viking-direct.co.uk they have a Pental one in Black Red & Blue £1.59 each.
The Meanstreak is good I have to say. |

Wow, this is an old thread! Mark, is there any updated source you have for getting those Marks A Lot retractable markers? I've looked around online and cannot find them, though this was so long ago, maybe they're no longer made?
Thanks in advance, and see you in FL again sometime... Andrew from Chicago |

Marker update:
Marksalot are discontinued.... I Now use Expo Clic and it is better. The sharpies and other permeant markers re liquify when the balloon pops getting all over. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?c......wQ8gIwAQ http://www.google.com/products/catalog?c......EQ8gIwAg The thick ones only come in red, black and Blue... The thin ones have secondary colors too orange, green & purple. The wipe board markers stay just as well as any other marker. ALSO if you have to wet your finger and you can wipe off mistakes.
