Shuffle Master ideal
“The i-Deal includes card recognition technology that reads the rank and suit of each card being shuffled and offers greater speed than other single deck shufflers.” http://www.shufflemaster.com/02_eu_produ......deal.asp OK dose that mean that someone somewhere in the casino knows the order of the deck before the hand is dealt? Is it linked to a computer or what I don’t understand what they mean “reads the rank and suit of each card being shuffled”. Why does it do that? Does anyone actually all about this particular machines. Ever used one? I mean lets say I have a poker game and install one. Can I sit in the back office and actually see the order of the deck before any hands are dealt on a computer?

Its to detect if theres any cards missing or if theres any duplicates.... as far as someone knowing beforehand, they say no, but anything hooked up to a computer can be compromised pretty easily...

Thanks. Seems a lot of tech just to do for that! The card recognition technology sounds interesting it must work like face recognition stuff... not that I know how that works. Basically reads a digitol picture, I think, so it must have some sort of camera in it, I guess.

Here is some info on how it works....It basically uses a camera...
It has an image capturing system, including a graphics display, flash ram , SDRAM buffer , digital (black/white) video camera and hand recall switch. The flash ram initially stores digital images of every dealt card as they are captured by the digital camera. The SDRAM buffer then stores and assembles the captured images. The images captured by the digital camera are sent to the gate array which uses gray scale compression to compress the images. The compressed images are then sent via 32-bit bus to microprocessor which then sends the compressed images to the SDRAM buffer and/or the flash memory via 32-bit buses. When desired the operator presses the hand recall switch incorporated in the shuffler housing to display the captured images, in order of deal, on display screen.

I have not seen the movie. Thanks Jeff but I have not got clue what all that means really. Do you think one could put a transmitter in it so one could send the oder of the deck to another room. If one was an expert with such things.
Does the machine know the order of the deck or just that it is a full deck?

A wireless transmitter would work....but, since the images are compressed, you may have a problem decompressing the images unless they use an industry standard like JPG, etc.
If you own the unit, all you would have to do is tap the video feed and transmitt that. But, if you were tryting to tap into a unit...you better do your homework I suggest that you buy one and experiment ! As far as Oceans 13.....it was fiction. Sure they could modify the shuffling algoritm to stack cards. But, the cards would have to be put in the hopper in a known order to when the shuffler did the stacking for you the dealer would bust

Expert, I knew it was fiction, I was just wondering if it was the same basic technology used in the film as in these shufflers.
get that book yet? kevin

Nope, I have too many things on my plate.....and will not be able to get to it till the new year. Hopefully, I can use the holiday season to play catch-up
As far as Ocean's 13 is concerned...I also laughed at the ultra-sonic dice But. I was intrigued enough to see if anything like that could be made. As far as the Shufflemaster machine...I would not even waste my time since I don't plan in swapping shuffling machines in casinos. But, I bet if you had enough time and money, you could come up with something
