Not sure of the name of it, but John Gaughan built it and Harry Blackstone Jr. also had one. Plans are not likely available.

What about the circle one, where the body gets kind of zig zagged?

"the circle one" is a Howard Thurston Illusion described and revealed in many of the Thurston books. There is a patent filed on it, and, I believe it appears in some of the books which contain copies of patents. Someone else can look it up, but I believe it was called Vivesection (also the Ships' Wheel).

You beat me to it! I knew I had seen a patent to it a couple years ago. Will try and find it again. Mark

That's the baby. From 1936 as well. How does the ground stand with building this? Is the patent still active?

Mark,
A utility patent will last, at most, 20 years from the date of filing. So patent #2034407 expired Feb. 1955. The patent referenced at the bottom (#4068841) also expired, around Jan. 1998. Tom Minnich |

Thanks for the information. Its too big an effect for me to build, was just asking in general in case anybody else fancied a try at it. If you do, I'd love to see the end result. Mark

I read somewhere that Mark Parker was doing something with Vivisection, maybe a new updated version. Also, there's a couple from Eastern Europe called New Absolom who do a great version where the girl is face on to the audience.

I don't think its a strong enough effect to justify the use of 3 assistants and a heck of a big creat for transport.
I saw S&R do it and it was used in a montage of illusions as a very quick visual gag. They got about 30 seconds out of it max. Best, Tim |

Yeah, I see where you are coming from regarding the Stargate looking like a disembodied. However, the performance is more like a vivisection in the way that the girl gets in the frame, her centre is covered for a sec with a bit of by play, then her torso is rotated 90°. at all times, head, hands and boots are in full view.
