I've been fairly active in Magic for about the last 25 years, but recently caught the bug to try and pinpoint the exact location of a magic shop in Shreveport operated by Duke Stern in the fifties. A search on the web brought me to this forum and once on board, I recognized a lot of familiar folks. I've posted a few private messages, but am open to anyone with knowledge of this shop.
Thanks in advance for any help, Louisiana Dan |

Louisiana Dan is a talented musician, magician and an all-around ok guy! In ancient times, Dan and I went to high school together. My dad knew Duke because he walked a police beat down where the magic shop was. But sadly, my dad is gone now. I am asking my uncle if he knows more.
There is a thread on the Café about Dukes: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......art=0#14 Check it out, Dan! Anyone else have Duke and Eddie's Magic Shop trivia? I know Duke worked for Abbotts magic shop. Duke Stern was well-known and well-loved among magicians. Good luck! Autumn
Wonder is very necessary in life. When we're little kids, we're filled with wonder for the world - it's fascinating and miraculous. A lot of people lose that. They become cynical and jaded, especially in modern day society. Magic renews that wonder.

Heres an article about Dukes shop in Indy from 1946
http://www.magicgettogether.com/indyarticle.html I have not found anything about the Louisiana shop but will certainly try. There also are some Duke Stern video stories from Karrell Fox and Greg Bordner at the respective links below. http://www.magicgettogether.com/lakeside......dex.html http://www.magicgettogether.com/interview.html |

I remember Duke Stern very well. He was an MC at the TAOM convention in Abilene TX in 1972. I could not have been more shocked when I learned of his death.
When Duke died, they had a memorial service for him at Abbott's. They took the urn with his ashes in it into the office of Abbbott's, wrapped it in some loose paper they found on the desk and buried it. The loose papers were the price sheets that were about to go out with the new catalogs. They had to completely re-do them. Duke would have appreciated that!
