Collateral hypnotism is a term I've coined to describe people who are in the audience of my shows, who wind-up getting hypnotized while watching my show.
One case in point would be this past Wednesday. I was hosting a show at a school in Northern New Jersey, a great bunch of kids and faculty there. Because theirs was a small stage, I had only five boys on one side and five girls on the other. During the course of my induction and throughout my show, more and more kids in the audience got Collaterallly hypnotized. The kids all who get collaterally hypnotized are almost never just off the I'll, I normally have to climb over a wide variety of audience members to get to them. So, the show that began with 10, over the course of my performance became 30 or more. These additional kids I sat in chairs on the floor in front of the stage and off to the sides of the stage. Even by my standards, this is a new record for people who have been collaterally hypnotized while watching my show. by shows and there were even more kids hypnotized, and I simply ran out of room to place them nearby the stage, so I had to dart in and out of the audience instantly bringing them back up from hypnosis. The process of collateral hypnosis is very dramatic to watch and see happen. Just imagine yourself sitting next to another audience member, someone just like yourself, who suddenly starts doing their teams from the stage show, much to your surprise. The school's Principal was totally blown away, he rushed up to me aat shows end and said to me that when he heard a hypnotist was coming to the school, he thought it was some kind of a gag or a joke, he thought the idea comedy hypnotism show might be within the same vein, and how wrong he had been. He's now a true believer in the power of hypnotism, and is hoping to have me back to work with adults as a a key part of a fundraising event very soon. Collateral hypnotism can also occur in private sessions where clients felt the need to bring chaperone along with them. More often than not, the chaperone gets hypnotized deeper and quicker than the client, as they are not expecting to be hypnotized that all. As the client might have an expectation, in other words, what hypnosis might feel like, what the experience might be, will aything paranormal happen, etc., the chaperone is more wide open and not expecting much to happen, consequently it usually does.
