100% correct Jim. If you look and act like you know what you're doing, it will certainly help convince people that is the case.

I always start with something totally grabbable. If they do grab, I have the line, "I have 2 acts, One is really fast moveing and entertaining, and lasts around 15 minutes per table, The other is slow and boring for everyone, and lasts an hour. I do the same tricks in both, but in the second one I have to keep stopping every few seconds for someone to look for things that aren't there."
I* must say though, that the more I focus on entertaining, and the more experienced I get, the less grabbers I get. andy

Ask the grabber to smell your wallet to see if it is really leather and then open it and let the flames burn:-)
Thanks, magico563:-) |

I alway wonderd:WHY DO THEY GRAB?
well in a restaurant the table is thier 'personal space' it is thier home. so if you put someting down the can grab it because it is thier table. people tend to be a bit more free to pick up other peoples things or props. that is the reason that I think a cups and ball routine is not the best option for table work. 3 cups and three balls to manage. for that reason I do the chop cup - 1 bal / 1 cup and my two hands. I still think that is is sometimes disrespectful of some people to grab. some people think they are higher on the ladder so they are allowed to do that. if a spectator would put his hand into my pocket I will take it out and make it clear that this is not they way to be and that he is out of line. technically speaking he is stealing or pickpocketing and that is a misdemeanor. |

Hey...just put some "bait" out there...something they CAN grab maybe a solid deck of cards and watch 'em try and look through it!!
Must say...in working 3 differet resturaunts in the past...I don't do it now due to 2 BAD knees (one really bad!) and I'm just NOT into doing that again, I never did have a "bad" experience at all though...LOTS of good ones thanks to people with manners...THANK YOU LORD! But always have something "grabble" to see if they will!! |
