Greetings All…
As you can see by my post count I’m still fairly new to this site as a poster. I have become fascinated and completely addicted to this forum as there are many great folks here who share many great opinions. There is always a good thread to read, and always great constructive criticism. Sometimes things can get a bit heavy but usually it gets sorted out fairly quickly. I would first like to make a second introduction of myself as my first new arrival post was short and sweet and didn’t share very much… many thanks to those that gave a warm welcoming. The reason I post here today is a brief intro followed by an interesting assortment of questions and thoughts shared as well as dreams and goals that I have had since a kid that are starting to become a reality. I have been a fan and practitioner of magic for about 14 years with a gap in the practitioner part for about 4 years or so when I was in the military. I would do simple things here and there to build up some troop morale but didn’t have the time to dedicate and truly focus on magic. When I was a kid and first getting into magic I dove right in and it became a huge part of my life. I spent hours and hours reading books and watching old VHS tapes to study and learn the basics and build my foundations trying my hardest to build up some decent skill to one day be able to perform with confidence. I did birthday shows here and there for friends and family and then began doing table hopping at some of the local restaurants in the town that I lived in at the time. Once I joined the military my performances became scarce and only a few card tricks and mild impromptu tricks were performed here and there. After getting out of the military and into the corporate world I focused on my job at hand and studied and continued to work hard as I am doing now. I am in the IT field and I do have fun as a network engineer working on some of the newer technologies today and keeping up to date. It has been a great learning curve, but I must say something was just missing. I did not like the fact that I wasn’t practicing anymore and more so did not like the fact that I wasn’t performing anymore. I then started bringing magic back into my life and of course it came back with the same intensity if not stronger than before. So for the past few years I have been back into the realm of magic as a performer and completely addicted enthusiast and know that magic will always be a part of my life and it would be a dream if this could be my main focus, or one of my stronger ones at least. Magic has truly taken some interesting turns and some incredibly genius tricks and methods have been created. Kudos to all that have shared their brilliant ideas to us all!! I am trying to keep this post from being too long so I guess I should get to the point I value your opinions and advice as I have taken much advice from you guys all ready from other threads. I am in the preparation phases of a new trick/method that I have been taking careful time while working on. It will still be some time until I have perfected this and worked out all the possible kinks so that I can share something new with the community. I am hoping it will be a great hit amongst the magic community especially here. So I am trying to have all of my ducks in a row before creating a good quality demo and revealing what this effect will be. While I have been on this route to discovering how to properly bring a new trick/method public I have come to the conclusion that I want to fulfill one of my dreams as a kid and even now as a young adult to have my own online site/shop. That is why I come to you guys/gals today in search of advice, comments, and/or concerns. I completely respect the online magic community and the growth of sites and shops that I have seen and have probably purchased something from. My goal is not to come across in a competitive nature as I think there should always be an allegiance between magicians and shops in the magic community, but of course my goal is to bring something unique with some originality to everyone. I have been working on the details of that and I know you guys/gals will be presently surprised once I have completed everything and the site is up and live. I come to you guys/gals in advance during my prep stages to seek out some additional points or suggestions that I can add into my site/shop that will cater to everyone. What you have always wished for in a magic site online or shop? What are things that you have noticed lately that is missing or a new turn that you might not like so much? My goal is to combine the appeal to the young/new and upcoming magicians, as well as the performers that have been doing this for years. I want to try to find the happy median. If it does well that will be incredibly awesome!! if not, (which I am going to try my absolute hardest it doesn’t go this route ) it will be a great experience and hopefully at least I will bring some great new unique effects your way! Of course any advice, be it an open post on this thread or via PM is greatly and truly appreciated. I hope I can bring in a new site that has a unique touch of old and new into this great realm of magic! Thanks for making it through my long post! Have a wonderful day! Luke
I do not envy the magician that knows 10,000 tricks... I envy the magician that practices one trick 10,000 times.
