Hello,
I just got a Paso Sound Procast 50 (50 Watt Portable Sound System). I also got a Countryman E6 (headset microphone) with a Switchcraft TA4F connector (4-pin mini XLR plug). The Countryman mic doesn't work with the receiver. It is the right connector and I have tried, sucessfully, two other mics with the transmitter. HELP!! Joe |

Hi, Joe!
Many brands of wireless use the TA4F connector, but there are MANY different ways of wiring them, so I suspect the wiring of the mic's cable to its connector doesn't match what's needed at your beltpack. Here's Countryman's chart showing how to wire their mics for a variety of different wireless beltpacks, but I don't see Paso listed. http://www.countryman.com/display.asp?catid=4&pid=75 I think you'll need to find out the "wiring standard" or "pin out" for the Paso, and take that info, a printout of the Countryman page, the mic, the beltpack, and the receiver to an EXCELLENT electronics person. A hobbyist (or even many professionals) will likely NOT be able to fix it, because the Countryman's wires are VERY tiny.

I agree - you may also have a bad mic. Remove the tip and see if it is blocked. I had some dust buildup on mine and it caused major problems.

Dan,
Would that explain other mics working with both transmitters?? My other headset works with both my Shure transmitter and my Paso. The E6 works with the Shure, just not with the Paso. Thanks for your help. disney, I just use the E6 with my Shure transmitter. It works great. joe |

Dan,
I called Shure and Countryman. Here's basically what they had to say: I asked Customer Support at Shure what the setup was on their WH20 headset TQC connector. Shure said the shield and 1 side of the audio were on pin 1 and the other side of the audio is on pin 3. Pins 2 and 4 are not connected. He mentioned that the reason the E6 might not work on the Paso could have something to do with bias voltage??? Countryman: you need a new wire ($54.95). There is no connection that will work with both. Who do reccommend that can get me a cable for the E6 setup like the Shure one?? If I get a new connector from Countryman, I will have to switch it out all the time to work with the bigger systems. New question: will switching out the connector on the E6 wear it out quicker? What's the most likely thing to break on it? Thanks for your help Joe |

will switching out the connector on the E6 wear it out quicker? Because the E6 wires are VERY small, the process of re-wiring can damage it. You'll need an EXCELLENT person to do it. I'm not exaggerating. Quote:
What's the most likely thing to break on it? The E6 is susceptible to problems where the cable plugs into the headset, where the cable joins the TA4F connector, and where the tip of the mic attaches to the boom arm.

I keep mine in the original case and store the zippered case in a plastic video box.
I remove body tape along the axis of the wire so that I don't stress the cord. I made a monofiliment line device to pull the cord up and down my back. This helps to reduce the pull on the connector.

I'm having problem with the Countryman mic cutting out on my Paso 50. Once or twice a minute for just a half second the mic goes dead. I installed a new cord and it was fine for one show then started with the same problems, only less frequently. I'm wondering if the mike cord to the tranmitter is moving and causing it to cut out? I did get a pack built that hangs across my chest to hold the baterry transmitter pack under my vest. I thought that would but less strain on the xonnector than when it was in my back pocket. When I wear it on my belt it always falls off when I bend down to a child's level. Any other thoughts I can try?
