Hey guys,
Here are two more cents! As some may know I am a "collector" of ACAAN methods. (And passes too!) Anyway, after reviewing this effect I can say that it is pretty good as far as a good 'working' method. To clarify this point...I know of other versions that appear to be better (test conditions)...but are certainly not appropriate for walk around or even 'real world' use. For example my own pet method for this is really only appropriate for magic conventions...and certainly not usable in the real world...it is as clean as it gets...but those who know the method think I am crazy! Anyway, I can imagine that this version will find its way into many 'working magicians' sets. It should be noted also that this version is not really ACAAN...it is more of a CAAN. However as stated in previous posts...spectators usually remember it differently...especially when you tell them that they freely "thought of" any card...that's what they will remember. Some of the best versions of ACAAN do exactly this...after the card and number have been 'determined' the performer then proceeds to 're-write' the past on exactly 'how' they were determined. (Tamariz is the master of this!) Spectators are not as picky as us when it comes to conditions of the selections. Anyway, like any effect on the market I am sure that some will like it...some will not. I personally think it is a very fine solution and a very workable method. Take care my friends, Cody S. Fisher

Thanks for the kind words....this routine is a real worker.... Hocus Pocus is now taking pre-orders for "The Quest". http://www.hocus-pocus.com/magicshop/?hn=1 It should be available by Mid January, 2008 Here is the blurb: The Holy Grail of the Any Card at Any Number plot is here! A pack of cards is freely shown and a card is freely picked by the spectator and returned to the deck. A second spectator is asked to name any number from 1 and 52. The pack of cards is handed to a third spectator who deals down and reveals the selected card at the named number! There have been many versions of the 'any selected card at any number' over the years, some gimmicked, some sleight of hand, some convincing, others not so... but all striving to achieve the effect of having any card selected in the deck to appear at any named number. Welcome to the mix - The Quest! Some features of The Quest: No sleights, no switches, no needing to even touch the cards as they are dealt... the spectators do the dealing. No difficult calculations to perform, or difficult formulas to remember. Only ONE deck in use throughout, no switching or needing to carry around multiple decks. No gaffed/gimmicked cards in use, so no specially printed cards, no rough and smooth, no short cards, no sticky stuff of any kind etc etc. It will not be the same card and or number every performance, and no convoluted procedures to come to a number or specific card... card is freely selected and the number is freely named. No stooges, instant or otherwise. No angle issues, and instantly resets. The cards before and after the selection can be shown to be different. As well as all of the above points, The Quest has to be one of the easiest to accomplish, and is easily within the reach of everyone, no matter their skill level. Available mid-January, pre-order yours today and pay absolutely nothing for shipping anywhere in the continental United States! The download is still available till January 10th at: http://www.precisionmagic.com The main post on the Café is: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......m=218&20 Thanks! Frank Velasco |

Regarding this trick being exactly like Affected....
I took a look at the instructions from Affected from a friend of mine. 1) First without revealing methods, the setups are similiar but different in numbers. 2) The big difference is in the handling. The Quest has TWENTY pages of detailed handling and instructions and NONE of them are close to the instruction of Affected. Affected only has 1 1/2 pages of instructions. The Quest offers what Affected does NOT: 1) Card box and Non-Card box routines 2) A Killer double-under cut which makes this trick a snap from Dr. John Aime. 3) The Quest uses a handling to deal cards into the specs hand as an example 4) A card is picked rather than being peeked at 5) Quest offers multiple ways to get the card in the right position and less cards to manipulate 6) The Quest uses a completely different numerical set-up 7) The card picked by spectator is NOT known by magician throughout entire effect These differences warrant a complete different routine and effect but a similar setup used by many tricks over the years. I have given credit to many individuals who influenced my thinking about my effect "The Quest". I hope this helps....of course this is my opinion..... |

Marc Paul has neen given credit for Affected as well as others in the instructions...It has been updated and noted...All of these ideas were instrumental in developing "The Quest" effect. I thank all of the creators that were a part of "The Quest" effect.
We are planning to send Marc Paul the effect "The Quest" so he can comment so I believe this is pretty fair.. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention... Magically, Frank Velasco |

Due to the Controversy involved in this case Precision Magic has decided not to release this effect and it has been turned back over to Frank Valesco.
