On another thread a fellow was asking if it is difficult to load the MP3s into an Ipod. I don't own one, so I can't answer. Do you have any advice for him?

ITunes will convert the MP3 to their format.

Thanks folks. I appreciate it, searching the net had all kinds of complicated approaches.

Yeah, I have had a bunch of MP3 players before and that is no problem. iTunes has a different kind of issue with it though. If you do a search, at least initially, iTunes would NOT allow MP3s to be imported without the original CD being inserted (a prompt would come up).
Following that, the iTunes codec was cracked and people could make MP3s from the iTunes/MP4 formats, but those programs were not exactly "authorized". There is a decided lack of recent information recounting this. This has not been an issue for me since, being old school, I owned all the CDs I had MP3s for. Then, to make things even more complicated, even if you HAVE the CD, iTunes has issues with MP3 Audio Book type files (see http://aldoblog.com/audiobooks/itunes/importing-mp3-cds/ ). However, and apple got back to me, importing MP3s is possible but UNSUPPORTED by Cust. Service. The rationale I got was that the last couple versions of iTunes can do it so any problems are assumed to be with the file itself. Since apple does not sell MP3s in iTunes, they are unsupported. Thanks guys, I've been looking as well. |

I posted a response in the other thread, but to give you some more info...
I downloaded the current version of iTunes today, and tried importing some MP3s I got from Amazon into it. They went in fine, and I could click on them and play them. So while Apple may not want to help you, I think you can import MP3s just fine. |

Thanks Jeff. That is the conclusion I came to. Searches on the internet were mainly for older versions of iTunes. I also contacted customer support and they finally responded saying they should import fine but that issues may be unsupported (due to the fact that apple doesn't sell mp3s for itunes).
The original problem was that iTunes used to require the original CD before it would import any MP3s. Thanks again everybody, esp. all the great folks here and Mr. Close who released a spectacular book. |

MP3 CD's are burned in data mode, similar to a CD-ROM.
Audio CD's are burned in "Red Book" standard audio format. Because an MP3 CD is basically a data disc, not an audio disc, it doesn't "mount" on your desktop the same way an audio CD does. Depending on the version you're using, iTunes may be looking for a mounted audio format when a CD is placed in your computer, something an MP3 CD isn't. If this is the case (and with the newest iTunes version on a Mac it isn't) all should be easily addressed by dragging the MP3 files from the CD onto your desktop, and then dragging them into iTunes from the desktop. |

Anyone know what the time is between payment and the audio file being able to be downloaded? just bought this, and am keen to get it pronto.

All of our orders are processed manually (one of the drawbacks of OSCommerce). We try to stay on top of this, but the ordering process is not instantaneous. We were out running errands when David placed his order, and I processed it the minute I walked in the door. He has probably received two emails to this effect by now.
(And I hope he'll post about my great service. ) Close |
