Paid a visit to Stan Willis and his Guinness Book Record collection this last Saturday, and to say I had never seen so many different restraints in one place would obviously invite the response of "No ****, Sherlock!"
Stan and the Mrs. made me and my Mrs. feel right at home. We spent two hours looking over some of the various contraptions and trading anecdotes. I held items in my hands that I had only ever seen in photos, including a figure-8 handcuff from 1812, an Elias Richards cuff, and a Bean Giant engraved to commemorate its having been "stolen" (not by Stan, of course). In addition to more well-known gyves, Stan showed me several prototypes and a few unidentified manacles. I brought along a few offbeat Ian McColl items to share, as well as a few souvenir miniatures of the Iron Maiden from the Royal Castle of Nuremberg. The wife and I have been invited back, and I plan to bring a few cuffs and locks from my little stash for Stan to help me identify. All in all, a day well spent.

I'm glad that you enjoyed his collection, and I'm proud of Mr. Willis to share it with others. And for those who don't get to visit him and see his collection, there is a CD out of his collection. There are a few places that you can get it at.

Steve and his Mrs. were excellent guests, and I also had a great time visiting with such an interesting couple. I invite all collectors and others interested in restraints to come and visit. Don't all come at the same time.
You can find information about my CD on my web site: http://www.handcuffsandbadges.com Stan |
