I wanted to ask this question when I was reading Jay-Jay's post. How do you make it so that your audience will wear more than just casual attire? I understand that it depends on the atmosphere and where you perform but I don't know everything that goes into making sure your audience wears clothes that make it easier to pickpocket from?

Well if you are doing a show in theather some people will wear suits which is alooot better then doing a show on local party, in school when they are dressed normally.
so it depends what type show it is that and I don't think you can do something to make them wearing other things you must work with clothes they have |

Doctor FoxXx,
This is one of the problems that you will come to when pickpocketing. Most of time time you will need to work with what you have, however you can also bring a jacket along with you and make a joke that you were going to pickpocket, however no one is wearing anything. Then add a jacket onto your spectators and perform some pickpoceting. Hope I helped, JaY-JaY

Old thread, I know, but noone posts here anyways, so I doubt its going to be that much of a problem.
One thing that's pretty great is that the hip pocket steals for a suit jacket work great on those zip up hoodie pockets, most people who wear these tend to keep either a cellphone or a music player of some sort in that pocket. you get some pretty awesome reactions if you steal an ipod when they have a Some leather jackets have identical inside and outside pockets as a suit jacket, so you can use that, you just have to watch out because they tend to use heavy duty button clasps and you will be caught trying to undo those. What it really comes down to is having something to fall back on if there are no good marks there's no point in making things hard for yourself. nothing good to steal, whip out a deck of cards, the audience doesn't care, they just want entertainment. |

Yeah, too bad with super hot climates like where I live. Hard to do with shorts and a tee.

Decomp- Oh what does one do when given very little. Shorts and tees are a pain. But you do have watches. Shorts do have pockets. Khakis are great they have extras pockets on the side of the leg.
I live in Canada, near Toronto. We get four seasons, so I get to practice both fully clothed, (Where you can't push back the sleeve) in the winter, regular clothes in the spring and autumn, and in the summer, shorts and t-shirts. You learn to work with what is given, and add some routines along with it. A routine with money. A transportation effect for the surprise ending, with the pickpocket act in the middle. You will still baffle your audience. And people will still grab their watches and wallets when they see you. If that is your character, then you did your job right. Paco iglacias- True the audience wants to be entertained. But if you are hired to be a pickpocket, pulling out a deck of cards doesn't impress your client. You have to put the effort to doing effects that have a pickpocket feel to them. I've tried so very hard to pick ideas out of tricks that look like a pickpocket would use his skills to perform. I don't find too many tricks with cards work well with this. (that doesn't mean I don't have any, I just find a lot of the plots work better with non card effects.) I've gotten some great ideas from Docc Hilford and his booklets. Annemenn as well. You just have to put some time and research. I'm trying to put together a booklet that is pickpocket and con man based magic tricks. It is taking a while. But I hope its worth the effort and wait. |

You could always do a card to spectator's pocket. Or the card up the spectator's sleeve. I think that anything that involves working in the spectator's personal space is close enough for most people. The ability to sneak something into a person's pocket implies that you could just as easily take something out.

I heard from a friend that anecdotal evidence is actually quite reliable. |
