I think a very good buy. When ordering some of the self-published or lesser known author's works I often wonder, in the back of my mind, if I'm not setting myself up for getting one of those badly written, worthless booklets that were once, and presumably may be still, advertised in the backs of certain magazines. So it's a great pleasure to not only have those doubts dismissed but my expectations exceeded. Superb customer care and prompt replies, and any free updates are icing on the cake.
What I feel you get is a very well produced, slick introductory volume on impromptu hypnosis. Written with both a nice structure, as well as with an easy non-technical flow to it. Anthony neither patronises nor offers BS and fantasy. He also explains and avoids using the common misconceptions of Hypnosis, such as Hypnosis=Relaxation, but the coverage of what is currently understood about hypnosis is deliberately lightweight - the emphasis is on practical knowledge and exercises. What is defined, is done in terms of historical quotes from well-known hypnotists and presented as simple models of possible workings E.g. all the critical, logical faculties are equated with consciousness, everything outside that is considered the unconscious mind. For those who get in amongst the first 200, on the dvd the inductions are done both setup in advance with breaking them down as well as done live and impromptu. A big part of the value I think is in having the dvd with it. Also, here, I would have liked to have seen some of the routines that were the real hook of RIP. It is mostly about classic, authoritive, direct inductions and he covers them much, much better than many books I've seen on the subject. The photography in particular was very nicely done and would help make it all very clear as you work through. Few negatives: although he mentions hypnosis is not relaxation or sleep, there is still a common use of the word sleep in the inductions. In fact this and the emphasis on being The Hypnotist was reminiscient of McGills overall style and there is much more to the subject. Secondly and finally, I didn't like the use of the term 'mark' to refer to the participant (dictionary.com: Slang A person who is the intended victim of a swindler; a dupe). Comparatively, its much easier to get the basic ideas than from either 'Fun with Hypnosis' or McGill's big blue block. Alternatively, Fun with Hypnotism is the more comprehensive introductory guide, with a whole pile of good routines along with it - consider reading it as your second book, if you have Reality Is Plastic. Ultimately, I can't speak highly enough of Igor's 'Deep Trance Training Manual', which for me is still the one to beat, if a more advanced work - again, look to this one to continue your journey in rounding out your knowledge. Overall it's a fantastic, clear, inspiring introduction to the subject and one that's filled a gap in the market; a much better introduction for any beginner than the often recommended 'Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism'. In using it, it will get more people running off the starting blocks than any other book on the subject, to date, I know of. MT. |

MT,
I really appreciate you taking the time to write a lengthy and balanced review. I have taken your comments on board and your book recommendations. The first run of Reality is Plastic books I am pleased to say have sold out. The second run should be ready by mid April. Hopefully you will be able to sell the first edition with it's flaws and typo's for a fortune one day In the next day or so I am releasing the first in a short series of supplements to accompany the book called Reality is Plastic: Proper Mental. It is specifically targeted at those who have an interest in magic especially mentalism and want to introduce some hypnosis into their work. I sent out a few copies today and am just waiting for some feedback. Look out for the announcement. Thanks again. Anthony

With the other guides in this area, you may get more info, there is always more info, but proper coverage of just starting and getting doing it and exactly what to do are prone to be lost in the mix. For example, I know several people who have bought the encyclopedia when first starting out and were none the wiser or any more experienced for it. I don't think anyone will ever say that about this one, it is covered excellently, and in that, it is more useful and better than any of the above choices.
I think the small typos were really very minor, and the book didn't suffer by them - in a small way, unfortunate yes, significant, no. Purely from the quality of instruction in this, I would now look forward to other things you may treat us to in the future ...and hopefully, next stop Proper Mental! All the best, MT. |

I recently got this book and I have to say that the book is amazing I could not be more satisfied with the book.
The book is very well written, easy to follow and very focused and to the point which were perfect for me who had no prior knowledge about hypnosis but who wants to become a hypnotist. I have read other books on the subject but most of them were just confusing because there were just to much theory and information which ended up with that I had no idea about what to do or how to hypnotize people with confidence. This book as I said is very straight forward and to the point and covers what you need to know to successfully and confidently hypnotize people, everything from how to get started, a couple of very effective induction techniques as well as some really funny "routines" and more. The bonus video that followed were also very good with very clear instructions on how to do the inductions. I have had some time to try the techniques out and I am quit shocked on how powerful and effective these techniques are. Me and my friend were down at the local guitar shop to buy some new guitar strings and I managed to try out the handshake induction thought in the book on one of the guys that worked there and it worked perfectly and he got zapped out and I made him believe that he were now selling guitar strings to Steven tyler and Joe Perry from Aerosmith and he seemed quit happy do to so, it was a quit bizarre experience but it was extremely fun. |

I know this is an old post...but I still have no idea what S Lea was talking about.
If what is in Anthony's book is not Hypnosis....and he is basing this on "scientific hypnosis"....what is "(scientific) hypnosis"? And if this is a scientific - medical trade journal type of thing...why does he have to pm about it. |

Nono...
I have, have read, and thoroughly enjoy the book... I do not understand what Café member s lea was referring to when he was claiming that what is in the book is not hypnosis. If that is not hypnosis....what is? |

Hey Ant I just saw the clip. Absolutely loved it and I hope it brings you the success you deserve. I also sent it to someone who was arguing the case for hypnosis a) not existing, or b) if it does exist it can only be in the realms of social compliance. Can't wait to hear what he says after watching this.
Well done again. Bob ps: such a pity you weren't allowed to present it.
