I am not a magician, but my friends are, so I know the tricks.;-)
I joined because my friends were a subject of discussion on one of the forums here, and I wanted to defend them. My friends use big cats in their show, I myself own/train big cats, so here I am. |

Hello Zuzana,
Interesting reason to join the café, but welcome. I hope you find the Café interesting. I hope your defense went well. Training big cats must be an interesting, challenging and rewarding occupation. What kind of cats are we talking about? And where are they used, circus, magic??? Welcome to the Café.

Thanks for the welcome.
Well, the 'defense' is still going on, here is the forum that caused me to join, you tell me who is winning ;-) http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......rum=7&37 Not every magician uses animals in his/her show, buy if extreme animal rights, AR, activists have their way, we will all be vegetarians grazing the TX lawns. Penn and Teller have it right in their BS series, too funny Big cats/exotic animals are an easy target on the ‘animals to ban’ list because you can fool people it is all about public safety, when in reality, only one person gets killed by captive big cat in USA per year, majority are owners/trainers, aka voluntarily accepted occupational/hobby hazard (kind of like you expect firefighter to get burns), but these cats are NOT a public safety issue in the big scheme of things, see the facts/statistics here I prepared comparing deaths caused by exotic animals to death in every day life: http://www.rexano.org/Statistics/NumberO......otic.pdf Since many of you have animals in show, even if not lions and tigers, AR will eventually catch up with you too, since to them any animal in captivity is a form of ‘slavery’. If it is supposedly abusive to transport exotic animal in circus, why is it OK for a dog, I mean, it is just another animal, ‘exotic’ is a human made label, you see the slippery slope? So I guess since many of you here perform in public, I decided to join the forum not only to defend my friends, but to also educate using facts rather than emotions. I own many exotic pets (tiger, lion, cougar, wolf hybrids, reptiles, etc...) and I met my magician friends FERCOS, http://www.FERCOS.com when I moved to Las Vegas; what actually brought us together was not magic, it was the fact we were all originally born in Czechoslovakia and we owned big cats. Until I met them, I was just a pet tiger owner, from them I learned the training of big cats for shows, so they are my teachers. I think of their animals as ‘my babies’, they are very sweet good animals that love to perform and travel. |
