Got a call from the Legendary David Walker...80 something and doing my Grindshow Plan instead of pitching Svens had a big mishap this weekend. After a BIG money Flea Market Sat and Sunday, David old and working alone was worn out and sloughing the tent by himself. David uses an iron frame with bolts etc so it's a big job for him. Seems he was so worn out he left without his Zibit or it got lifted and didn't realize it was missing till today when he unpacked. Gone and out of biz.
Now as if I'm not backed up to the hilt enough I've got a grind out another for him so he can eat. What a business. So keep your eyes open on ebay just in case. I'd recognize it if I saw it.

How sad. It turns a "what is it?" into a "where is it?"

I have talked with David and think there is an important lesson here...
Be careful when you tear down. I have seen this discussed extensively in jewelry threads on other boards. At jewelry shows tear down is when you most often forget things or have things stolen. I have never seen it discussed in relation to the outdoor show business. David probably lost/had stolen his chup during tear down. At the same flea about a year ago I also lost my 10 foot top banner at tear down...just plain forgot it after I rolled it up and somehow drove away without it. At tear down you are tired and hurried...a lesson for all who will learn from David and my mistake. |

Some people are real scumbags, that is a shame.

It probably wasn't stolen, just left. One chopper pitchman there just leaves his booth for breaks and leaves the $25 choppers just sitting there. He has done this for years and never lost stock. The cleaning staff there just goes through with big sweepers on Monday and tosses everything.
It is easy to forget things at the end of a long weekend when you are fried. |

I feel for David. Thankfully, (knock on lotsa wood, like my head), we have never lost anything after slough. Sometimes I have been up till dawn sloughing two booths myself if my wife has been sick. We ALWAYS slough at close and NEVER leave anything for the next day. There are two reasons for that.
1) Things can be missing the next day, including all goods and the tent. 2) Its just too darn bright the next day. IMO there is nothing more depressing than the day after a fair. The grounds look forlorn and miserable, with nothing but corn dog wrappers blowing in the wind... |

Just talked to David Wednesday to tell him his new Zibit was in the mail. He was so excited he was in tears. Hopefully he recieved it and is 'out there' this weekend raking it in.

A stolen zibit ....are there any sadder words than these?
"What's your drug?" she asked. "Hope" he said, "The most addicting one of all."

Yeah...'The Dog ate it".
Bobby Reynolds once had his dog eat the face off a REAL Shrunken Head worth about six grand.

My grandmother gave my father's collection of Mercury Dimes to Unicef or some other charity that does the "fill the cardboard" thing.
A friend's mother took his sub trunk out to the burn pile, burning it and some random props stored inside of it because she thought that he was putting it in the "junk pile." She said that the lid was broken, anyway. And I once had a paper cut. It really burned. Chris |

About a year ago a gentleman passed away and his daughter threw out to the curb thousands of dollars worth of magic books. A member of our local IBM ring heard about it and headed there and saved most of them and brought them to the club auction and gave the money to our club. They were rained on some but not too bad, some warping on some of the books, but good enough to read. Some family members just don't know the value of what some of us have.

David was down to about $20 and the Zibit came in just in time for a late Saturday Fleam market start...to get him fat with $650 for the rest of the weekend.
The man can talk.

I do a lot of lighting and sound for events and I alway do a final walk through after tearing down. Once everything is loaded up I go back one last time and walk anywhere that I had gear setup or stored. If its at night I'm sure to have a flashlight too. I'm better now but I used to find all kinds of things that I would have missed.
Doug I don't know you very well but I do know your a good man! Keep up the good work and I will be placing my order soon. Fitz
