Oh man, that is very upsetting. He was such a big part of my life for so long.
What would Wavy do?

When? Where? How?
Never mind, I found a link: http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/03/04/obit.......n_latest "Despite his declining health, he hosted weekly games of Dungeons & Dragons as recently as January, [Gary's wife] said." Glad to hear that. |

We were discussing GG's passing earlier in the 'Geeks' thread ... as noted there, the D&D site also has a page set up remembering Gary:

May all the gods of the original "Deities and Demigods" (except cthulhu and company) conduct his soul to Pandemonium... (where all good little Chaotic Neutrals go when they die!)

Us geeks need a little help getting out of our own little sphere sometimes. Also, extra bonus points, the host of that weekly game became the best friend (aside from my wife) I ever had in my life (now deceased). Thanks for the good times, Gary Gygax. |

I used to stop by the Dungeon hobby shop (which was the brick and mortar home of Gygax's TSR Hobbies) in Lake Geneva, WI, about once a year back in the early 70's. I met Gygax and perused the very early D&D books there, though I didn't buy in until they released the original boxed D&D Basic Set (#1001). Somewhere along the way it got away from me, but I'm thinking now I'll pick up a copy again on eBay. I still own the TSR 'Dungeon' board game I bought to introduce my daughter to D&D.
Gygax was one of those rare guys who actually came up with something innovate and genuinely NEW. I'll miss him.

I spent several years playing, DMing games and creating adventure modules in the World of Greyhawk for my group. While I haven't played in years, several of the 1st Edition books, manuals and folios still sit on my shelves.
It was an education for me. Thanks GG. |
