I have recently started playing with fanning decks. I picked up a dragon deck recently and am unsure of the sequence of fans.
These cards are longer than regular cards. The back is divided into quarters, as many such decks are: 1 quarter is blue, the opposite corner is yellow (gold?). The other corners are striped with one having a yellow star in the black stripe. The face sides of the cards show normal indexes in one corner, blank in another and the reaming third is used to make the finale spread of the dragon. My question is: What is the starting position, face side out or in? What sequence do you show the various patterns; i.e. start with fanning to shoe the indexes, than the opposite solid colors, than blank followed by the dragon finally? Unlike the American Flag deck this came with no instructions and I am finding trial and error to be frustrating. Thanks, Jay The magician always grateful for the kindness of strangers

You're welcome.
I don't use the sequence myself because I can't do a reverse pressure fan. On the other hand, maybe this is a good reason to get away from the monitor and go learn it. Right now! I'm outa here. Thanks for the motivation. JEff |

You can just do a reverse finger or thumb fan and it's a lot easier.

These seem cool, anyone else use them on a regular basis?

Trashmanf, I can't do a reverse finger or thumb fan, either. I can't do a two-handed reverse fan. Right now, I just do a one-handed fan to get a reverse. But with the whole deck it certainly would look better if I could do a two-handed reverse fan.
You know, some things just take a long time before you get that "knack" that makes it pop into place. With two-handed reverse fans, I've come back to it fifty times and it just feels as awkward and trying to pick my nose with one of my toes. Danny Boy, I don't perform in public, so I don't use them on a regular basis. But I would. Jeff |

Stoneunhinged, a lot of it can be just getting the cards in the right condition... with the dragon fanning deck it doesn't have a good finish so that can make it really difficult, pressure fans might be the way to go with this one.
fanning is kind of ignored by a lot of card workers because it does seem like you can try it forever and not get it. But eventually it will click, if you stick with it |

I received my dragon fanning deck 2 days ago and was wondering why the heck the new packed deck look as if there were cards or the instruction missing because there was so much space left between the cards and the box.

Solitaire, that's an interesting observation. I just looked at my pack and it's true that there' a lot of extra space--just like with a pack of tarot cards, where the instructions go.
My guess, however, is that the extra room is just to reduce the wear and tear on the cards which comes from inserting and removing the cards from the pack. But it was an interesting thing for you to notice. Jeff |

Are there any other fanning decks on the market? I have the Dragon and the Harry Anderson fanning deck. As of yet, I have been unable to a poker sized deck of fanning cards.

Yes, theres actually a lot of them but they are hard to find because very few people would buy them. just google/ebay "fanning decks" is what I did and I have collected about 7 different ones, a couple are poker sized but annoyingly thin "manipulation cards" (as if that's not redundant)
they are unfortunately expensive but you should try a couple and see how they work for you. |
