Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to posts a few thoughts on my new Jeff Jone's Backdrop that I recieved yesterday. First, I'll start with Jeff - he has topnotch customer service and we discussed my design ideas several times on the phone and also through email - he listened and brainstormed with me several different patterns/colors, etc. He then emailed me some patterns that he thought would work and I was very impressed with his insight. I was also ordering a second backdrop for my children's shows and he was very helpful with that as well. On to the backdrop. I recieved it yesterday and it came in a very nice bag with a shoulder strap that holds both the material and the stand - and only weighs 15 pounds! He had told me that there are no instructions as it is self explanatory and it really was - but he did encourage me to call with any questions I may have. After setting up the tripod and then attaching the curtains, I unfolded everything and let me just say - WOW! The height is adjustable and it easily went all the way to my ceiling and the sides are also adjustable so you can determine the exact angle you want. It fills a living room and will also look extremely nice from on stage. The material is very nice and folds out without wrinkles, etc - everything is in place. Then, the takedown was very easy as well - just roll up the fabric and close the tripod and you are all set. I highly recommend these backdrops to any interested! They look sooo much better in person than they do on the website, and I was impressed by the website. They are also much larger in person. I was using the build-it-yourself Barry Mitchell backdrop for a few years now and this is much lighter and cannot be compared in terms of professional appearance. I will be giving my old backdrop to a magician in my area who is just starting out. Finally, Jeff will work with you to find the exact backdrop design that fits your show - and it will be fairly unique, with very few replicas! I love mine and can't wait to use it in my shows! Highly recommended! Thanks Jeff! Chad |

I am late in posting my comments about Jeff's outstanding backdrop. Chad's review is spot on, nothing much to add except buy one! Excellant customer service. Thanks again Jeff!

Chad:I agree with almost everything you posted.I received my Jeff Jones curtain backdrop a few days ago.The quality is excellent.I was particularly impressed with the 'totally sturdy' and solid stand.
The only negative for me is the carry bag.Although it is attractive,I do not find it practical.Stuffing the huge set-up in that bag 'for me' is a real chore...especially when I would have to make it to another gig and time is short. Also the zipper is not heavy duty and will probably break sooner or later. So I purchased a black duffle bag.42" x 25".[as opposed to 40" x 8" ]It has a 'heavy duty' brass zipper, and rings to add a shoulder strap. This way I will be able to casually and quickly roll the backdrop up and drop it into the roomy bag...and I am on my way[No need to roll it super tightly like is necessary with bag that is supplied].There is also plenty of room to carry other stuff should I wish to. Plus I still have a nice bag for some other smaller item. Rich |

Great idea Rich! I will possibly get a similar bag as well just because I am often rough on my carrying cases and would like to have a spare! I getting a little larger and heavier backdrop from Jeff in a few weeks and he is going to make a larger bag for it.
Where did you purchase the duffle bag you speak of? |

They even sell a larger duffle bag [50"x 30"].That's a little too large. If you do a search on E *** you will find it. Rich |

No, I got a custom backdrop design for both, but the one I just recieved isn't any bigger than the ones on his website. My backdrop for my safari show on the other hand, which is also on the website, is heavier and needs a larger bag.
But the one I just got has the curtains on the side with the drapes, etc. The materials are very nice and would be appropriate for even very elegant venues. |

I see.
That must be the Rainforest backdrop type[for the Safari theme]....very cool. Good luck with it! Rich |

Gotta disagree here, Paleo. I bought one of Jeff's first backdrops a couple of years ago with the drawstring bag. Sliding the rolled backdrop into this was easy but I could never get the stand to fit in. I bought one of Jeff's new zipper bags a few months ago. The new bag zips the full length allowing the bag to open flat. The backdrop and stand fit right in with absolutely no fuss. The zipper on my bag is heavy duty and, after several months of almost daily use, I see no sign of weakening or breakage.
I might add that in spite of nearly daily use over several years, my backdrop still looks and works like new. This is real quality workmanship.

I 'personally' would rather not have to 'tightly' roll the set up ..so that I can stuff it into the attractive but very 'svelt' carry bag. That is why I decided to go the duffle bag route..roll it up[even loosley] toss it in the oversized duffle bag and I am on my way. Now as far as the zippers are concerned...I am glad you have had good luck. However, the zippers on the carry bag I received ...are no where near heavy duty. However,on the duffle bag,the zipper is heavy duty brass. It's a man sized zipper! I am pleased to hear how the actual curtain backdrop has held up for you.Great! I am not surprised...it is nice quality. Best. Rich |

Sounds reasonable to me, Rich...so, let's not say that we "disagree." Rather that we each have our own bag.
I heard that Jeff was making them with heavier cloth. I'll have to check out his latest models. Best to ya! Skip

Wow.I finally had a chance to practice setting up and tearing down my new Jeff Jones Backdrop.
I can now set it up in under 60 seconds, and tear it down and bag it in under 90 seconds. As I stated earlier, 'for me' the the biggest problem was rolling up the thick/heavy fabric...tight enough so that it would fit 'easily' in the attractive bag supplied. It was just too much of a chore[plus I felt like I had just worked out ]..especially envisioning having to pack up quickly in order to get to another show on time. The black canvas duffle bag[42" x 25"]that I purchased seperately online has solved this problem. It has worked out exactly as I hoped it would in my post on 3/8/08.Being able to roll the curtain up and plop it easily in the duffle bag along with the stand has relieved the initial anxiety I had regarding this fine product. Plus there is plenty of room for other items to be carried in the bag.The shoulder strap from the Jeff Jones bag works perfectly on the duffle bag. Also the smooth moving zipper on the duffle bag is super heavy duty ,just as I had hoped. Let me also say that when I was initially having trouble correctly folding and rolling up the curtain...I left Jeff a phone message re: my problem. He returned my message with his own...with detailed instructions that solved the problem. Now I can seriously and highly, reccommend this backdrop. The quality is amazing:From the wrinkle free curtain and backdrop material...to the heavy duty high quality stand. A Great Investment! |

Just had to mention that I just recieved my "Rainforest" backdrop from Jeff Jones for my safari shows and all I can say is...WOW! If any of you have visited his site and looked at the picture of it - it does not do it justice, it is soooo very impressive and it is even larger than my first custom backdrop that he made me by a few inches. Wow. Jeff is truly talented and this backdrop will literally fill a room and yet can be easily made to fit into a small venue as well with just a turn of the sides.
Once again, this backdrop is awesome. I believe that he may have a few more left if someone is interested in the rainforest motif. But he only makes a few at a time of these as they are quite labor intensive. Awesome product at an awesome price. Chad |
