Hello all! Its been a while since I have been here posting anything, but thought I would stop in and say "hello". Been busy is all.
I wanted to share this video with everyone. There are many questions consistently about doves and their eggs, what to do, etc.... Well, I actually caught the final hatching of the second egg this morning on video, and wanted to share it with you. http://www.magicsax.com/NewHatchling/ the video is a quicktime video and is fairly large, but give it time, ITS WORTH IT TO SEE! My purpose in doing this is to show the "new-to-dove-magic" people what could possibly happen during their stint as a Dove Worker, and hopefully by watching the video, and reading the blurb underneath it, it will answer a few questions that are usually asked about the situation. For you other guys who have been in the dove realm for a while (Dave and Bob *LOL*), this is old news for you (no pun intended), but its still nice to see LIFE actually happening as it happens (wow, that sounded confusing didn't it!) I am just happy to have two more potential pets in my magic family. That will give me WAY TOO many! *haha* ENJOY! -Alpha |

Thanks for sharing. It's been awhile since I had a hatchling. It's always an amazing site. I have one question though. How come a green dove gave birth to a pink baby? LOL. Of course I'm kidding. That's a real pretty dove you've got there.

My doves are sitting on eggs now too. They are so protective. They kept waving their wings whenever I change the water or feed them. I keep watching but unsure when the eggs will hatch? It's more than a week now. Is it going to be 3 weeks, does any one know?
Thanks for the video. it's so beautiful. |

Hey Knmagic - It takes about 21 to 26 days for them to hatch. One way you can tell if they are fertile or not is that the eggs eventually turn a solid white color after about a week and a half to two weeks. Its hard to explain, but the eggs will totally look different than they did the first week. Right now they sort of look opaque, right? Like you can alsmost see into it, but it will cloud over if they are fertile.
an update on my little one - One of them did not make it. The female dove pushed it out of the nest and would not retrieve it. While it sounds cruel, there must have been something wrong with the little dove that would have eventually ended anyhow. I try not to get involved with what the doves do when it comes to the hatchlings because they know best. It was a frustrating sight to see that happen, but the strong will survive. The other little one is doing great. It has little feathers coming out, and trying to stand, but mama-dove keeps it underneath. Its funny to see a little head poke out every once in a while from under the doves. The eyes are beginning to open and they just look like a clear pink. The other little one that passed away never got to the point of opening its eyes. It grew a lot fast though, but just didn't make it. |
