Lee Harris' essay, "Our World-Historical Gamble" is a fascinating look at the effects of the truly revolutionary changes happening in our world right now, and the dangers of underestimating them.
I'm posting it here, because I think it's worth reading and discussing. I hope you read it, and ponder it. |

On the surface, it appears deep.
But, as you read it, you realize it's barely shallow. |

Yes Peter, I had the reaction. I started reading it and am still waiting for the punch line. The world is changing . . .and. . .Sort of a "tell me something that I don't already know" feeling.

"The liberal world system has collapsed internally: there is no longer a set of rules that govern all the players". I'd like to comment on this but I will respect the wishes of Mr Scott Guinn.
Good article but rather embellished! |

Actually, there never was a set of rules that governed all the players.
Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia and Poland in 1938 and 1939 to "change the government". The U.S. CIA overthrew the elected government of Salvadore Allende in Chile because the U.S. didn't want a Marxist government -- duly elected or not -- in power in the western hemisphere. England took over India (and many other countries), changing their governments solely for economic advantage (to England). The Soviet Union seized much of Eastern Europe after WWII, changing the forms of government. After the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, much of the West invaded the Soviet Union with to sole purpose of changing that country's form of government. The list goes on and on. Basically the only rule is the Golden Rule: He who has the gold makes the rules! |
