I'm performing at a couple of weddings in a couple of months, and a friend suggested I get this bottle production. I did, and after playing with it a bit, I'm enjoying it very much. It even fooled my wife tonight (which, of course, is often difficult to do).
For those that have and use this, do you find it is best to use it as an opener, or later during the show? I'm referring to it's use with a bottle of wine or champaign. I thought of just having everything sitting in my case, and during the show just pick it up and do it. But I was concerned that the silks wouldn't be in the right position when I pick it up, etc. That's why I began to wonder if it might be better to come on stage with the silks already in hand, and go from there. Also, even though this routine is fairly quick, does anyone do it to music? Brian |

Hi Brian -
I've used "This!" to produce a Vanishing Bottle of Coke in my shows (then I vanish the bottle). I have done it at the beginning, but sometimes I've done other things first, without the prop in my hands. I've had the prop for close to 25 years, and used it in hundreds of shows, if not thousands. I got mine from Micky Hades. You can lay it on the shelf in your table, on it's side, and all should be well. You might need to put a prop by it, to keep it from rolling. I take the loop and tuck the ends of all 3 of the silks into it. Then everything is easier to gather together quickly, and you just un-tuck the ends. - Donald

Brian,
You can use it anytime in the show. It does take a little "planning" to make picking it up go smoothly. But in less than a couple of hours of practice it gets like riding a bicycle. I will be lecturing some up in the Great Lakes area this summer. If we can get to the same place at the same time, I'd be happy to give you some one-on-one with the prop. Donald, the THIS (Improved) only looks like the old THIS we marketed even into the 80s. Do yourself a favor and learn why it is Improved. The improvements are very real. The trick has been performed at least since the 1400s. Unfortunately, for a period in modern American history technology destroyed it. The problems of the technological "improvements" of the 70s were overcome in the last eight years. Now it is better than ever. No more junk serger hemmed "silks", no synthetic "silks", no more load chamber rip-out, no more "cheese slicer" gimmick disasters and the load is self leveling! (And the Improved good one, is cheaper than the bad ones!) Now you can also pick your colors. In the 70s and 80s the only color choices were made for you. All were red, blue and gold with silks that hung like bathmats. (Now you can very safely use an 8 lb. load.) Somewhere here on The Café Rob Evans has a link to a video of his using it on stage with the Line-Of-Silks as a load. It is very rare that I don't use one on stage or in trade shows for product placement. It will accommodate about a half gallon load up to 16" high. Brian, Congratulations! You have really expanded your possibilities. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

I bought the "Improved" T.H.I.S. a couple of years ago. As Bob said, it is a wonderful effect, and now better than ever!

Hi Bob,
Here's the link to the silk routine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbfNiyJu_0Q The line of silks actually comes from a b**y l**d with a modified dove harness we made up. However, I do have and use a THIS for a bottle production and have used it for other productions as well. Like you say, it is a great utility prop. By the way, do you have a schedule for your Great Lake area lectures. Pat and I would love to come out and see one. All the best, Rob |

Thanks, Bob, for the clarification about the "Improved" THIS! model. I will indeed check that out. I assume Rick carries them?

Donald,
Rick should have whatever you want. He is Ricker here on The Café or email him at silkmagic.biz. He also has a website with photos. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Thanks. I checked it out right after I made my post.
I'd love to see more photos. Unfortunately, the only photos that appear are on the home page. None of the other pages have working photos ("Image Not Available"). He might want to look into that, if he's not aware of the problem. - Donald

Does anyone have specific information on
the technical differences between: The "Improved THIS" with Ruhl/Sanders DVD, and "Paul Kozak's THAT" with DVD,Bottle Productions? Thanks, Walt |

Thanks for the suggestions Bob, Donald, and others. I'll spend a some more time getting the knack for it.

Brian,
Just a hint to make practice easier: Put a box of playing cards in the very bottom of the load and just leave them there. The weight will help you know where your load is, make it easier to produce your load with one hand and keep the center corners of the silks in a line level with the floor. Walk,
We are not talking about "Ducks and Ducks" here. The props are not really close to the same. (But the ads are good!) Ricker here on the Café has both. Ask him how they differ. He uses the (Improved) THIS after a learning curve. Bob |
