Could this happen as stated? Of course it could.
A complicating factor here is in defining our terms. My understanding of “hypnosis” is it is a catch-all term (for different methods, styles and circumstances), which also certainly incorporates many (not a single) attentional, compliance and other socio-cognitive factors. Could this be something other than it has been presented and assumed to be? Equally, of course absolutely possible. All we appear to know is he asked for change, “it was very strange”, he helps in counting out the money, and he ended by getting her to look in his eyes. There is also a second (female) suspect, whose role is equally undetermined. Conclusion: not enough data. I think Jeffrey Rose’s (Cert.Hypnotist, Advanced Hypnosis Center) argument is flawed: this cannot happen, is not possible nor plausible – because… “you just can’t get people to do things against their will”. What he didn’t mention, forgot or, less likely, doesn’t fully understand, was that there are very well understood mechanisms (in which hypnosis are them or involves itself in them) and circumstances , where people’s attention can be disrupted and directed and others where they will tend to move their behaviour in line with another reality, context, frame, set of boundaries. This is not a simple case of one ‘will’ pitted against another ‘will’, like some jousting battle of wills, where the loser forfeits his or her brain. Then: is hypnosis that quick a process? Again, need to agree on terms. His answer – “no, if that was the case I would be able to help people instantly to quit smoking.” and “It would also take a little longer , right?” His answer- “it would take a looooong time.” So, now it IS possible, but such hypnosis takes a long time. More half-truths, at best. Again, he doesn’t discuss the above or instant inductions or people who do respond to both induction and hypnotherapy with great ease and rapidity. We can speculate on some of the possible factors: Confederacy and “hypnotic” cover story. PHS – how easy would it be to simply arrange to talk with a checkout worker outside workplace? Instant Hypnosis or more specifically, possible: Candidate selection(and possibly aided with the female accomplice) , again either in or out of the workplace, either immediately prior to or previously, looking or even testing for high suggestibility, low attention, attitude to job/boss etc. An opportunistic prior encounter shouldn’t be ruled out. Timing – there are particular natural circadian lulls in attention (as well as the more individual, idiosyncratic ultradian cycles); were they approached at the known end of their shift or after a busy period? Pattern interrupting, overload, reframe with compliance factors, suggestion of amnesia. Natural pattern continuation and immediate resuming of (minimally) attention-requiring chores. For the latter, what gets me is not whether it could be done but why and how she did not recall the discrepancy all the way until the cash was counted at the end of the day. Amnesia is not the blanket affair it seems to be and a very quick jolt of attention would normally be recovered possibly after they left the store but long before the end of the day. I agree with you Nongard, that it could spike interest and amp up the placebo effect for some, but not sure if much other good may be done. |

I did a spot on this robbery news story today on F O X and Friends cable news.
I used the famous Speed Trance Butterfly Technique developed by Mr Cerbone and it worked it's magic down to the silver pen........it's made for great TV as it is very fast, visual and extremely effective. This is killer material for anyone that knows how to use it well, and it got a great reaction from the host. Thanks Again John, http://www.foxnews.com/video2/player06.h......29&&&exp Sebastian Black

The above link doesn't hold - it's too dynamic.
The only real way to see the Fox and Friends clip is to go here: http://www.foxnews.com/video/index.html And then do a SEARCH VIDEOS on the right under the headlines for "hypnosis" - and four videos will come up. The one with Sebastian is called "You're getting sleepy" Nicely done. |

Thanks for the directions. Nice clip Sebastian.
If it is a confederate, there appears to be more than one. In the other Fox clip 'look into my eyes' they state there has been a run of them. That is, unless this was just part of his general goofing around and embellishing the story. Bank-tellers handing over 600eu. and he WAITS FOR A WOMAN to appear at the desk. There could still be a couple of reasons why he'd want to speak to a female over a male employee, but this tends to lean it towards either PHS setup or several confederates and as with more of them any link between them would be much easier to fish out, more likely the former. |

Hi. Nice work, thanks for the Kudos! I've worked in the building, I've hosted comedy Hypnosis Shows there and a Smoking Cessation Program. Go get 'em and break a leg, or as we say in NYC, a knee-cap. John |

Here is a clip of me using the Erickson handshake and John Finger Vacuum. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-idcxFOusRg I also did John funny red pen but using my red deck of card this same day, it's not in the video. Sebastian, Good work! Really enjoyed it! ~Max

I can knock out most people in under a minute. I believe you could get people to hand over cash in a checkout line. All you need is the huevos.
This napkin is a $100 dollar bill. Please break it into twenties. Anthony, I loved your book and video, Reality is Plastic. I found techniques that even work on my wife and kids, and they NEVER listen to me. That alone was worth the price! |

Ok lets go into a grocery store the 2 of us.
I will put up a $1000 that says you can not do it. Wanna try? If it works it is a $1000 well spent in my mind. Would be well worth the money. But then again I could use the $1000 I plan on winning.
