Here in the UK a few people have developed outside travelling shows which they tour around the country. Magic and illusion features in some but not in all. Most travel in a long vehicle with a drop down side forming a thrust stage with a fixed stage set within the vehicle. To the sides and behind the set are accommodation, living and access areas.
As it is a children's/family style show - though mainly for the children - there's lots of slapstick action and special effects built into the scenery. Anything from blown smoke and black soot, squirting cream from somewhere unexpected to the inevitable squirting water. And something at some point has to explode! All good clean fun. The style of show varies, some are lightweight, perhaps only three people whilst others are heavyweight with five, six or more people involved. There's usually a competition for the children with an opportunity to come up on stage and prizes at the end. Usually it's a thin storyline with plenty of participation, dressing up, singing and dancing. Some shows are quite sophisticated set-ups with powerful sound systems and a backstage manager who observes the show through CCTV systems. Right now, with financial tightenings, these shows are becoming scarcer but as things improve they will be back. Do you have these types of travelling shows working their way around your region or state?

There are some very good traveling shows, most do the fair circuit in the season. Dean Hankey (Dean, I swear man, I was going to go to your club tonight and completely forgot what day it was) had a trailer like that.
