Hypocrisy reigns supreme in here today.
All of those getting into the saddle of their moral high horse because they think that allowing China to hold the Olympics somehow validates their political views and its treatment of their populace better stop shopping at Wal-Mart or most any other retail outlet as a shockingly large amount of our consumer goods are made in that far off land. They also hold a vast amount of our debt as well and I hope I don't live long enough to see them call it in. Like it or not we are in up to our eyeballs with China so allowing them to hold a little sporting event in the great scheme of things isn't going to make that big of a deal. Besides our record on human rights isn't nearly as shiny as it should be at the moment either. Granted it's no where near as bad as Chinas but the words torture and legal should never be spoken in the same sentence by an American Politician. Plus, with the eyes of the world on them it keeps them from doing anything particularly atrocious, at least until the Olympics are over.

My favorite Olympics moment was in the Berlin games. Having been told that he could not refuse to meet with Jesse Owens if he met with the other winners, Hitler chose not to meet with anyone. But that's not the moment. The moment was when Jesse Owens beat the German athlete who then took Jesse's hand and led the crowd in chanting "Jesse Owens, Jesse Owens" to der Furher's major antagonism!

I live in Eugene Oregon and we're lucky enough to be hosting the U.S. Olympic Track and Field trails over a Hayward Field on The University Of Oregon campus.
They start at the end of the month and go into the first part of July. I just hope the city can get the streets around here in decent shape. We have so many pot holes, it just about knocks the tires off of my truck every time I drive somewhere. Bob. |

Does America (or every other country for that matter) have its own domestic torch relay or something? The official global Olympic Torch relay's North American leg took place on April 9 (in San Francisco). That was only appearance of this year's Olympic Torch in North America. Since then, it passed on to Australia and Asia and is presently touring China. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Olympic_Torch_Relay http://maps.google.com/help/maps/torchrelay/ http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/story?id=4609265&page=1 So what took place in Westwood, NJ?
