I have been given several tricks as part of a retired magician's (Sir Rodney) collection that he performed in the early 70's. One of these items is a trick called "HEN HOUSE". It has 4 blocks of wood, two have rooster heads, one has a rooster's middle and the 4th block has a rooster's feet. These blocks are to be dropped through a rectangular shaped tube - for lack of a better description. The bottom of this box/tube has a hole for your finger or thumb to go into in order to keep these blocks from dropping right through.
Does anyone know about this trick? Thanks, Derrick Rose |

I don't know of this version, but it sounds like it works on the principle of the "Skeleton in the closet", or "Santa stuck in the chimney" trick. Look on a few magic dealer websites for those tricks. In a way, it works much the same as the strat-o-spheres trick, except there are blocks in a square tube, instead of balls in a cylinder.
Derrick, if you need more info about handling a trick like "Skeleton in the closet", PM me. - Donald

The 'Hen House', I think, was originally a Supreme (Edwin Hooper) item!
But feel free to knock my comment down as I've been known to be wrong on occassion (not often though, he says whilst LOL) |

I have one...it's actually called "Brewster the Rooster", my friend. Says "hen house" on the top of the graphic, though, right?
I have original instructions, too. If you'd like a copy, send me an email to: stevethomasmagic@aol.com or PM me. Steve |

It also acknowledges Jack Hughes: "We are grateful to Jack Hughes for permission to offer his excellent effect". Maybe Hen House was Jack's initial effect and he wanted to keep that one for himself so he offered Skeleton to Supreme? Tommy Cooper's Magic Shop in Blackpool carries a lot of remakes of Jack Hughes effects (Derek Lever had Jack's permission to build I think). The Hen House sounds like something Jack would have created, I've never seen one but can picture it fitting in with his style. Maybe someone else knows more... Mark

The item he's talking about isn't from Supreme, or even England. It's "Brooster the Rooster", and I believe it was from Hank Lee's.
